Randall
Report: Bush being shopped By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer Friday, February 27th, 2009 at 11:23 am in Oakland Raiders. According to Pewterreport.com, the Raiders are shopping running back Michael Bush. (Be patient with the link _ some web sites are moving extremely slow or shutting down because of heavy traffic.) The Bucs, victims of a 177-yard rushing effort by Bush in the season finale, are said to be interested. Got a call on this last night, asking about the possibility, and my response was that it seemed unlikely for the following reasons. – Bush is a bargain, earning $460,000 this year and $550,000 in 2010. The Raiders like to think they got a first-round talent at a fourth-round price, and would be more likely to offload a higher-priced back such as Justin Fargas. – The Raiders plan to run the ball as much or more than they did last year. They needed all three runners in 2008. No reason to think they won’t need them all in 2009. – Darren McFadden was less than durable as a rookie. Could be a freak occurance, but you don’t know for sure until he carries 200-plus times and catches 60-plus passes in a 16-game season. That makes Bush all the more valuable. If you’re looking for reasons how a Bush deal could be possible, consider the following: – When Bush was asked to put in some time at fullback because of injuries to Oren O’Neal and Justin Griffith, his response was less than enthusiastic. He could have looked at it as a chance to broaden his game, catch some passes and maybe even have some plays put in to make his of his skills that went beyond blocking. Instead, he was resistant. – At the press conference announcing the hire of Tom Cable, when owner Al Davis talked about the group of running backs, he talked about “four” quality runners. That would indicate that he likes Louis Rankin. Enough to part with Bush? Seems unlikely. – The Raiders are simply fishing and hope to reel in a big one. What if a team liked Bush enough to offer a first-round draft pick, or a high second? If no offer were to surface, no big deal. With the Raiders, you seldom rule out anything without careful consideration. As far as the possibility Bush is actually traded, let’s say I’m skeptical. In other developments, a source close to guard Cooper Carlisle said he is lining up visits and will start in the south. Carlisle went to college in Florida. http://www.ibabuzz.com/raidersblog/2009/02...pped/#more-4046
tbimm
I wouldn't mind seeing the Saints add another Bush to the roster. Edited February 28, 2009 by tbimm
irish
I wouldn't mind seeing the Saints add another Bush to the roster. Do you really think they'd do that? And if they did, that would likely mean PT's role would be largely diminished if not gone altogether and R. Bush would keep his same role, no? Meh, I could see a 3 headed monster in New Orleans but it wont happen. As I said in the advice forum I don't feel the Saints will address that position this offseason. I am very curious to see how M. Bush pans out no matter where he goes. I think he has a ton of upside.
tazinib1
The Chargers tried to get Michael Bush last year but the Raiders scoffed. I'm sure AJ will keep sitting on his ass this off-season.

tazinib1
I figure Al doesn't like trading with the AFC West. Actually there was a tentative agreement for a 3rd round pick but Al bumped it to a 2nd. AJ walked away.
The Vatican Hitsquad
the author of the article ends it with he's skeptical that the Raiders are shopping Bush.
Randall
the author of the article ends it with he's skeptical that the Raiders are shopping Bush. He disputes it'll happen but heard they were shopping him. Maybe Al is once again messing with other AFC West teams or is trying to see what he could get for him. Maybe Al is once again messing with other AFC West teams or is trying to see what he could get for him. That makes more sense, but I would think/hope they just sit on him at least one more year. His cap hit is so small compared to the contribution he could make on the field as we have seen.

Even if it is a PT FB, PT part of a 3-headed RB attack... he's still worth more than his salary is demanding this year. Keep him or trade him, Riaders get value from him. I just prefer the value to be him staying on team and gettign better.

Right, but if another team wants to give him a bigger role than they would compensate the raiders for that presumably, and it would make more sense to trade him.
