tazinib1
Bucs agreed to terms with RB Derrick Ward on a four-year, $17 million contract with $6 million guaranteed. ETA: ugh yes I know I spelled Derrick wrong. Edited March 3, 2009 by tazinib1
Charles
I'd imagine any FF teams counting on production from Earnest Graham probably had bigger problems than a Ward signing.

loyalboyd
Do anyone think now Ward is there he is the outright starter hands down. If not what is the split in carries.
Jackass
Do anyone think now Ward is there he is the outright starter hands down. If not what is the split in carries. Hard to know what the philosophy will be since it's a new coaching regime. I would think they'd want to make him the primary guy but it's only conjecture at this point. piratesownninjas
Do anyone think now Ward is there he is the outright starter hands down. If not what is the split in carries. Caddy is always hurt, and they don't expect him to play until midway through the season at best. Ernest Graham is also coming off a big knee injury and was seeing reduced time at tailback before that. I'd say its safe to think Ward is the primary back. ROYALWITCHEESE
Do anyone think now Ward is there he is the outright starter hands down. If not what is the split in carries. I think he is definitely the starter. I do not, however, believe he is going to get 300 touches. I think he will be in on first down, most 2nds, and 3rd and longs. Graham will probably get the short yardage, and some spot duty. I'm guessing somewhere around a 65-35 split in favor of Ward...

ROYALWITCHEESE
I seriously thought he was going to be an Eagle for some reason.... now I am getting frustrated as a fan... Would have been a great move with the departure of Bucks and the health of Westy. Can't imagine that they are counting on Booker for anything substantial. They must be looking to the draft, or hoping Tomlinson or James is cut. But at this point in their careers, I'd rather have Ward...

Robash
I seriously thought he was going to be an Eagle for some reason.... now I am getting frustrated as a fan... I really thought he was going to be a Cardinal, supposedly Ward offered the Giants a 3mil a year deal to stay and they said no.
Front Row
Nice pickup by the Bucs, lot of upside with Ward. Ahmad Bradshaw come on down!!! Your the next contestant on "split your carries with the big man show " !!

efi4eye
It's kind of a shame to see Graham fall by the wayside like that. He really was a team player / morale booster, and was on pace for a pretty good year last year before he got hurt even with splitting time af FB a little. Now with Ward, Graham and Cadillac you have to figure something is going to give. With all the injury issues I could see Caddy getting cut since Ward will take more of the bruiser role Edited March 3, 2009 by efi4eye

Your the next contestant on "split your carries with the big man show " !! 29 yr old RB's do not have "a lot of upside" , I as a Giant fan am sad to lose him ,but rather spend the money somewhere else.. BeeR
Yeah Ward has about 1 or 2 yrs of potential big production, tops. Still that's a pretty cheap price if he starts (as a part-timer and after signing Jacobs and having Bradshaw, I can see why NYG didn't want to spend even $3M/yr) and takes most of the load (likely IMO) so what the hell.... Robash
I can see why NYG didn't want to spend even $3M/yr) and takes most of the load (likely IMO) so what the hell.... because of Danny Ware, cheaper, younger and the same size as Ward. efi4eye
because of Danny Ware, cheaper, younger and the same size as Ward. Personally I think Bradshaw gets more carries this year. He's smaller than Ward, but with Jacobs already there I think as the quicker, more elusive guy he gets more shine than Ware. Bradshaw is averaging over 6 ypc and just waiting to take over that #2 role IMO Edited March 3, 2009 by efi4eye
G.K.Trey
no question that the carries will originally go to Bradshaw, but i think the team does like Ware and i would keep an eye on him.

I never said AB wouldn't be number 2, i just wouldn't break the bank acquiring him in leagues. Ware is a carbon copy of Ward and we saw how much they preferred Ward to a 6+ypc AB last year. It will probably come down to who has the better pass blocking capabilities. But after this FA off season, who knows what to expect from the Giants.
