CARDINALS SHOPPING BOLDIN

Posted by Mike Florio on March 12, 2009, 3:59 p.m. EDT

Kurt Warner might get to keep his $2 million, after all.

A league source tells us that the Arizona Cardinals are shopping receiver Anquan Boldin to potential trade partners.

Warner recently has suggested that he’d devote a portion of his salary to signing Boldin to a new contract. (We don’t think Warner really means it.)

Boldin, a six-year veteran, is signed through 2010. He has wanted for roughly a year a significant increase from his current range of $2.5 million to $3 million.

With teammate Larry Fitzgerald at $10 million per year, Boldin is believed to want at least $9 million annually.

Boldin previously has requested a trade. At one point after the Super Bowl, Boldin said that he would not sign a new deal with the Cardinals, and that he wanted to be dealt to a new team. More recently, he had softened in his position, expressing a willingness to consider a new long-term contract to stay with the team.

------------------------------------------

So how does this end? I know some have said that they still think he ends up as a Cardinal. However, some think that the G-men or Eagles would be nice landing spots. How do you hope it ends?

As long as the Eagles don't give up both first rounders, I'd like him very much on the team.

I'd like to think that there's a decent chance that the Eagles might not even have to give up a 1st round pick for him...

Supposedly, they might be asking for what the Lions got for Roy Williams when they traded him to the Cowboys. And Dallas gave up a 1, 3 and 6 to get Roy. I believe they got the Lions 4th back though.

Are you kidding, THe Cards are probably trying to get a 1 and 3 for him. Dallas set the bar with their trade for Roy last year. There is no way they dont get a 1 for him.

Dallas picks before Philly in round 2, and is looking at drafting a WR very early. They would give their 2nd for him in a heartbeat.

Not to go off topic here but since you mentioned Dallas and their need for a WR at one point I was hoping Dallas would have Heyward-Bey fall to them and after his great combine and Pro-Day, there's no shot at that happening.

I'd do that in a heartbeat for Boldin. Give Arizona our #28 (which still leaves us our #21 pick to take Pettigrew, I hope), our 3rd round pick, and our 6th.

No brainer in my eyes.

Perhaps this is the reason the Eagles have left themselves $40+M under the cap? Could it be they knew what they were doing all along??

I agree and I actually like Boldin better than Roy. So, IMO, the picks would be better spent than the ones given up by the Cowboys.

I'm with you there. I don't want to completely mortgage my future by giving up both 1st rounders. That's basically what I was saying with my earlier post. I thought that the Eagles have enough picks beyond the 1st round that they might give a combo of multiple picks in the 2nd through 6th. Probably unlikley, but enough other early picks throughout the draft which could equal a late first and another mid-round pick.

Maybe they're looking at a certain Browns receiver who's contract is up after this year...

I kinda hope not....his butterfingers would anger fans....

not me, personally....I have more patience than that, but it would still bring about frustration...

I hear that Houshz got a very bad vibe with his Vikings visit when Chilly introduced him to TJax. It isn't hard to imagine that the QB situation he would be dealing with would be less than ideal.

Childress, maybe next time you could leave TJax at home when you're wining and dining a prospective receiver.

Does Childress know the Vikes traded for Rosenfels?

And I read that he was going to make the QB position an open competition. I'm thinking that's just "coach speak", attempting to get the best out of both guys in a "healthy" battle and then just putting Sage in as the starter.

So, would Seattle rather take Crabtree at #3, or trade that for Boldin? Personally, I'd take Boldin as the proven commodity. Boldin and Housh would help Hass get back to his Pro Bowl ways and take all the pressure off Branch.

He'd be a nice consolation (ok, a helluva upgrade) to losing out on Housh in Minnesota.

I think that would be a great move. It would make me a little nervous to give up a 1st round pick two years in a row, but Boldin is a proven top WR, and I think if he can stay healthy he should be around for a good long time still.

Could Seattle take Crabtree at #4? Sure. But I think that since they grabbed Housh from FA, that they'll more than likely opt to draft a OT with their first pick, a guy like Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe being that Smith will more than likely be gone. Now if both tackles are gone, then things could get interesting as they could take Crabtree or trade down.

I can see Boldin being an Eagle, Giant or maybe even a Bear but more than likely returning to the Cardinals.

saying he'll likely remain a Cardinal is the easiest assumption...

but with what has transpired last offseason up until now, I will say he is moved elsewhere...

I mean, the Eagles alone having 40+ mil in cap room have to have something up their sleeves....I think they have the most room to maneuver in this scenario..

I agree that the Eagles have the room to maneuver and could very likely have something up their sleeve. However, how pissed and/or shocked would you be if they did nothing?

I assume they have a default plan that will be like a last ditch effort on draft day if all else fails...

I will just have to wait and see what that is...

Does no one think there's any possibility of the Cowboys trading Marion or Felix for Boldin? I don't know what the cap implications would be, but I can't imagine Jerry letting TO go without a backup plan for a WR. I mean, he's moronic, yes, but he gets stars in his eyes when looking at talent. I'm thinking he wouldn't have let the headcase go without something else up his sleeve.

does anyone know how much cap room Dallas has right now?....

or maybe he's looking 2-3 years down the road?..
