stouts

I was at a small local place that touts international brews. While looking for my second beer of the meal, I saw a stout from Australia, Sheaf Stout, and ordered it.

When they forklifted in that bad mamma jamma, I handed the keys to my wife. All I remember was it was pretty damn dark, surprisingly smooth and drinkable for how thick and flavorful it was, and I'd gladly have it again if I saw it around.

Peace

The king of stouts is the Russian Imperial Stout. I never had one I didn't want to marry, especially after three pints. BIG alchohol, BIG flavor. Malt, often heavilly roasted and chocholatey, this style is the man amoung boys in stouts, and I'm a big Guinness fan.

The one time I ever entered a home brewing contaest, I entered my RIS coffee stout. Won not only the stout category with a blue ribbon, but also the Brewer's Choice Cup, (as selected by the brew master of the Blue Point Brewery) top prize vs. over 300 other entries of every style.

Russian Imperials... simply the best!

never seen that here...what kind of stout is it?

I am on a Left Hand Milk Stout kick that I just can't quit, yummy stuff, even brewed a milk stout last weekend.

I like the Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout, very tasty. Have not tried the oak aged version yet...

have to agree with rovers about the russian imperials. had a bottle of the oak aged yeti last week and it was just phenomenal. old rasputin is always very good as well. stone's is another top choice for me.

young's double chocolate is another stout I really like. mackeson's milk stout is very interesting, quite sweet but nice. guinness is good if it's a good batch or whatever, definitely hit and miss probably because they make so damn much of it.

I swear I could put in a scoop of vanilla ice cream & top it off with some whip cream and it would be mighty tasty!

HA!! I actually did that (without whipped cream) for a beer/food pairing party at my club as dessert. it was AWESOME!

Another good pair is guiness with a MEXICAN chocolate ice cream. The spices in a mexican chocolate ice cream really pull the "float" together.
