Is there really this much Need?

I know I just started posting here a few days ago and I will likely end up moving on anyway. This is just what I do every few months or so. I see a message board that I think might be okay and I try it out a little while and get to know the members some.

But the rules are just so ridiculous in the ones you might actually end up wanting to be a part of. And the ones that you absolutely want no part of need more rules.

I just don’t see what the big deal about posting something different than what is on the first page. I don’t see why everyone should have to search and search before posting to see if anyone else has already posted the same thing in the past 5 years. This is just stupid and ignorant and nothing more than a topic killer. I don’t understand why so many people get upset over this.

Also you could have the same topic, but split into different topics. This is actually better organized. What I mean by this is that one thread may read that Brady Quinn might be Traded for Cutler, while another thread might read The Lions might give up Their #1 overall for Cutler. To me, these are two very separate topics even though they involve one common person.

And finally, what is so Pressing down at the bottom of the front page where threads are a WEEK old that we need to save so much Topic Space anyway?

Just trying to pass something along to everyone from an annoyed fan, who has seen this crap over and over again on many message boards.

Have Fun,

Mr. Hammock

I kind of agree. At least when a topic is older and you re-visit with a new thread and then someone posts the original link. SOmetimes adding to a thread that's 3+ pages deep is more work and confusing. Anyways, welcome to the huddle - take off your jacket and stay awhile  You seem to be enthusiastic about football which is a good thing.

I would like to hear someone’s actual opinion on this.

Let's look at this for what it is.

Someone like me can add a lot of conversation to a board. I have been a part of boards before that had no traffic and before I moved on fairly busy. But what happens is that the boards are dead and when the traffic comes the rules get crazier to where no one even wants to be there.

I have seen this over and over, so many times.

Maybe no one will even get what I am saying and it won't even matter. If not it was worth a shot to try and help someone or something.

Does anyone even have an opinion on this?

Thank you!

I appreciate that, very much.

I just keep for a message board that is loose on creativity and strict on people making personal attacks to the members of the forum. It just seems like I haven’t found any place that knows how to quite balance this correctly.

I get it, but at the same time, trying tom police the forum is killing it if you go to far. At least in my opinion.

You must have missed my opinion?

Like I said, I agree. Sometimes this place is too old (sorry geezers) and can get a little crazy on the rules. Rules are there for a reason but if a day or so has gone by on a given thread, I see no reason to keep that thread alive.

Did an admin or mod send you a PM saying to follow these rules? Or was it just randomly posted in a thread to you?

Stop being a Cutler, hang around for a bit, give the forum a chance... it might be for you or it might not be.

No; not at all. I haven’t heard from anyone who runs the board, at least not that I know of.

What I see is how the members react to things and how that can have such a negative effect on a board. In the end the negative few will win because there will be some fine print backing them up. However, I just think we need to use a little common sense.

Sometimes egos get in the way and that’s a shame too. Hell, I am not always going to be right and by posting something, I realize I might learn something. I know a lot about football inside and out, but there is always something, no matter how small, to learn. But some people get really upset if you teach them something and a little over enthused when you teach them something.

I like the debate and I don’t like for what I have to say about something to be buried deep within a 500 post response, because then it seems like my thoughts are just being overlooked and my time was wasted. This only bothers me when the one topic should really be split up into 10 or 15 threads. But because of rules and policing, everyone is trained that it’s wrong to have some common sense. Before we can get a good debate going, the train has been derailed, because a hall monitor will show his/her face and that spells the end of what might have been a meaningful conversation.

Sometimes I go months without posting on a board, but I just keep thinking about how fun it will be when I find the place that makes sense to me.

Sounds to me like you bring the traffic!! Stay here so we can get even more Cutler posts!!

I dont mind when someone posts a lot, but seriously, you dont need a new thread for every single detail. Thats my opinion on the matter. Stick around though, because I cant wait to get back at you about SJax being top 5 (if he stays healthy). :D

it's not "rules" so much as common sense. the boards are just easier to follow without a million duplicate threads.

You are entitled to this board being that way. The person/s who own this board hold all the power on this decision.

My argument is that would you rather have a slow playing board with topics that are a WEEK old on the front page or would you rather have a race car that burns excitement and pumps your adrenaline?

You can’t put rules on people being creative and too often board become dull and the staleness lingers into the attitudes of many of the lifers on the board. And whether or not this is realized, it will cause a stand still and make the board appear inactive to people passing by. Had there been threads on page one from TODAY maybe they would join in on the fun.

We all have all of these “Rules” that we have to live by, in our everyday lives. Why does there have to be so many rules to get online and talk about football? It’s football and as long as people are respecting EACH OTHER as they talk then why does anything else matter?

I just don’t understand the madness. I have actually though about creating my own board just to find what I am looking for.

And maybe most people like things the way they are, which is fine. I just have a different opinion of it all.

I agree.

If somenody thinks there have been enough threads about Jay Cutler then that somebody has every right to not read anymore of them. If a person is not interested in a thread, why do they feel a need to post a comment saying they are not interested in it?

There is a whole faction of people here who make a career out of being rude ESPECIALLY to new posters.

The way I see it, if they don't have something constructive to post ina thread, then stay out of it.

That idea would be aces.

I've never been to a board that doesn't frown on multiple threads on the same subject. Most boards either merge the threads or lock all but one. Not sure where you've been, but I'm glad I've never been there.

you do realize that this is the offseason and this is a football board. It'll pick up a little the few days right before and right after the draft, then die back down again, then it will take off again about two weeks before the NFL season. These boards are cyclical like that. In those peak periods (NFL Draft and the entirety of the NFL season), you'd be hard pressed to have a thread stay on the first page for more than a couple hours, sometimes less, if it is not getting a lot of action.
