Mr Hammock
I got to thinking today about something that might be interesting for everyone. We all have our difference of opinion on who ranks where in this draft. So why not have some fun debating who the best is and what ranking they should be in? I think we can all agree that this draft is going to be deep in WR’s and DE’s. Another position that could go on a run is OLB. But keeping to the topic, here are my list of WR’s and DE’s: Rk Defensive End 1 Brian Orakpo Texas 2 Everette Brown Florida St 3 Aaron Maybin Penn St 4 Michael Johnson Georgia Tech 5 Tyson Jackson LSU 6 Robert Ayers Tennessee 7 Jarron Gilbert San Jose St 8 Lawrence Sidbury Richmond 9 Paul Kruger Utah 10 Cody Brown Uconn I have Michael Johnson moving up because of his speed. This is not Freeney speed, but it’s pretty damn quick for a DE. I think Johnson could even go before Maybin. I’m not saying he will, but it could happen. Johnson has went from being a second round pick to an almost certain first round pick. I have him going as high as 13 to the Redskins. Also, look out for Jarron Gilbert. A lot of people seem to think this guy can be a 3-4 End, which will help his stock out tremendously. He was once a 3rd or 4th rounder and now he is starting to maybe, move into the second round. I think he might stabilize in the middle to late second round, where the Jets might be interested at pick 52. Other than that, I am sure some will disagree about Everett Brown being above Maybin. Rk Wide Receivers 1 Jeremy Maclin Missouri 2 Michael Crabtree Texas Tech 3 Percy Harvin Florida 4 Darrius Heyward-Bey Maryland 5 Hakeem Nicks North Carolina 6 Kenny Britt Rutgers 7 Brian Robiskie Ohio St 8 Mike Thomas Arizona 9 Jarrett Dillard Rice 10 Juaquin Iglesias Oklahoma Wide receiver is my favorite thing to talk about in this draft. Mainly because it is stacked with speed receivers and some have the size too. But I love to debate that Maclin is better than Crabtree. I understand that most teams who will have a shot at Crabtree will take him, but let’s remember why they are picking so low in the first place. Maclin is one of the fastest and he is by far the smartest. He doesn’t bring the injury concerns either. To me Crabtree and Maclin are similar to Keyshawn Johnson and Marvin Harrison in 1996. Although Glenn and Kennison were taken in between them, the draft is very similar too. The top five receivers taken in 1996 were Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn, Eddie Kennison, Marvin Harrison, and Eric Moulds; all taken in the first round. In rounds 2 through 3, eight more receivers were taken, including Amani Toomer, Mushin Muhammad, Bobby Engram, and finally the last receiver taken on day 1 – Terrell Owens. Note to NFL GM’s – If you were looking for a WR in 1996 and couldn’t find one then you have no business in football. Hell, Bill Tobin even got it right. Percy Harvin, in my opinion is the WR stud in this draft, but I fear he will be a locker room cancer. I would stay far away from him. bpwallace49
Good thread, but you won't get much, if any, of a response until the Huddle based leagues have their rookie drafts. Pretty much everyone who's posting here in the off-season competes against each other in some fashion and no one will want to tip their hand. I think most rookie drafts will happen in May, so this will be a really good discussion in June and July. Sorry bro. Since I dont play with any of you guys I am happy to weigh in . . I am confused by some of your DE rankings, especially as some of those players project to be OLBs in 3-4 schemes and may be too light to play DE in the pros as an every down player in a 4-3 scheme. (just like Anderson for the Bears, strictly a situational pass rusher the Bears deluded themselves into thinking he could play every snap). I also think Ayers is rated too low, as he is a guy that can do it all at DE. I LOOOOVE Maclin, and pray he doesnt go to WR purgatory in Oakland. I think Bey is a combine darling and will not succeed in the NFL. No way I have him in my top five, but that is just me. I think Nicks will be a productive pro for years with his reliable hands, good routes and work ethic.
Randall
JV is doing a rookie draft (now)and rookie IDP soon so we may get something soon. So far in the 1st draft it's Moreno Crabtree Wells Maclin Donald Brown Nicks Shonn Green Heyward Bey As for DE's it depends on where they go. They could be DE's or LB'ers and 3-4 DE's are there pretty much to eat blockers and let the OLB's get the tackles.

bpwallace49
BTW: Hicks is ranked too low IMO. I think Hicks has the potential to be the best WR in this class. His hands are like glue, and he carries himself with professionalism already. If he goes to Indy or the Giants I expect BIG things from him . . .
