Bronco Billy
I am leaning towards Orton as the starter myself I just can't bring myself to completely write off Simms. I think he is a classic case of a guy who is a victim of circumstance. Last year's QB situation in TN was just wierd so let's not even try to fault him for that. He is going to be competition for Orton in getting the starting gig in Denver, and if he plays I think San Diego, Oakland, and Kansas City people will be pleasantly surprised. Fixed. Simms has proven that the only thing he has going for him as a pro QB is his last name. If Orton can't beat him out immediately, he needs to retire and move on to his next career. Then again, our new boy-genius HC has already shown that he has a football IQ on par with a box of rocks.... Caveman_Nick
Why in the Seven Hells would McDaniels piss off & give up a legit franchise QB just to use a first round draft pick on an unknown quantity that hopefully would develop into a QB who can start at the pro level - to say nothing of being a very good or even a great player? My guess is that he felt like Cutler didn't have the character to be the kind of leader on the team that McDaniels was used to seeing in players like Brady and Cassell. That's probably what he is looking to find. Edited April 10, 2009 by Caveman_Nick

That's probably what he is looking to find. He was trying to trade Cutler before the ink was dry on his HC contract. There's no way he could have possibly known what kind of character Cutler had except through third person information. If what you are proposing is true, he's going to be a worse coach than even I fear he will be (and he's shown evidence to that well beyond what he did with Cutler though not nearly as high profile). Dark days are coming for DEN. Maybe the team can start wearing vertically striped socks again - it appears that is where the franchise is headed.
