I found this - 2 guys who did a root beer taste-test.

Root Beer Taste Test

E2A:  Berghoff, IBC and Gales were rated the best in this blind taste-test.  Gales, by their description, is the most intriguing to me (with heavy hints of vanilla).

It's gonna sound odd, but Walgreens is carrying corn syrup free, cane suger sweetened line of sodas. Root Beer is one of them. They're kind of extra crisp. The Black Cherry is delicious.

Sprecher is the best I've had.

Point Brewery makes a root beer as well but I haven't had it yet.

Never had that.  Unless you're joking, can you point me in the direction of a good one?

Sprecher's gets a 3.5 out of 5 from the two 'raters' I linked above.  They rated my favorite (Virgil's) the same.  Anyone ever have Gales?  Gales sounds like it would be good with strong hints of cinnamon and vanilla, and it's rated 4.25 by the same crew.  Obviously very subjective rating system, but it was pretty well thought out and it was a blind taste test.

Reed's is pretty good.

Some brands are a little too spicy and a little too sweet. Reed's is a good combo of bite and taste, IMO.

Funny, unless I'm reading the site wrong, Reeds Inc makes my favorite root beer, Virgil's.  I'm definitely going to be on the look out for this stuff.

if it was part of your initial post,

[lt. kaffee] then why the need for a 2nd post? [/lt. kaffee].

i understand they did it.  my taste buds are likely different than theirs, plus i'd like to experience it myself.

I figured you might have skimmed the thread so I re-posted it.  Plus, if they were serious enough about it to post it online and put that much effort in it - I figured it has to be pretty accurate.  I hear ya though, just figured you likely won't actually do the taste test so this is a shortcut

They stock them in the fridge near the gatorades - they're packaged in liter glass bottles.

Barq's in the glass bottle, there's nothing that comes close and there are only two bottlers who still package it that way, one here (where Barq's was created) & one in Louisiana so they are fairly difficult to find.

I am talking about the actual "Drive In" or whatever you want to call them(which of course is where you can get their draft rootbeer from too)

I must admit, Wisconsin had some pretty good root beers on tap. But for store-bought I wouldn't touch anything but Barq's.
