Tford
Interesting, I'm trying to decide what this signing means. 1) Thomas will start and is being counted on to run beside DJ inside of the Chiefs new 3-4 scheme while the Chiefs groom a later round pick. 2) The Chiefs will take Curry and use Thomas in rotation inside while the Chiefs run Curry and DJ as ILB and OLB. Swiss Cheezhead
Derrick Johnson won't be a 3-4 OLB -- that I'm sure of. He'll never be big enough. As it stands now, he'd have to gain at least seven pounds or so to hold up at ILB. So, that means WHEN the Chiefs play a 3-4, they'll probably have a Thomas & Johnson ILB duo. However, their personnel is so far away from being ready for a 3-4 that I have my doubts they'll be able to use it as their base scheme for another two years. Pendergast has experience coaching both styles, and using hybrids. Edited April 12, 2009 by Swiss Cheezhead
