policyvote
All-- As I've posted before, tomorrow I'm participating in a live mock draft contest sponsored by a local radio station. The grand prize is a big giant plasma TV; other prizes include a grill, custom NFL authentic jersey, etc. . . . so this has got to be right. The rules are, you pick 1-12. The players and slots are all that matter, what teams are picking at what slots don't count. So, accuracy, BPA, all of that comes way before trades or "clever" picks. Last year I was perfect until the Pats traded down, and I ended up with a framed set of Justin Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman rookie cards. I'm looking to do a little better this year. So, to the mock: 1 (Lions) Matthew Stafford QB Georgia 2 (Rams) Jason Smith OT Baylor 3 (Chiefs) Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest 4 (Seahawks) Mark Sanchez QB Southern Califoria 5 (Browns) Tyson Jackson DE LSU 6 (Bengals) Eugene Monroe OT Virginia 7 (Raiders) Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri 8 (Jaguars) Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech 9 (Packers) B.J. Raji DT Boston College 10 (49ers) Brian Orakpo DE Texas 11 (Bills) Andre Smith OT Alabama 12 (Broncos) Aaron Maybin LB Penn State Okay ladies and gents, what say you? I'm considering flip-flopping Jackson and Curry, and I'm also still torn about Crabtree to the Browns. I'm taking it on my own evaluation that the Rams take Smith over Monroe, and I'm kinda going BPA with the Jags at #8 . . . feel there'll be a trade there, but don't know for whom. Chief Dick
I think the 3rd slot will be Sanchez. Washington or San Fran trades up to grab him before Seattle. Maybe San Fran since they are in the same division. If the Chiefs stay put, they will not take Curry.
policyvote
Ooooh, that's interesting. Pioli could screw me with a trade down yet again. I've been waffling between Curry and Jackson at #3 all day; what makes you say definitely no Curry? Peace policy

If my plasma ain't coming free, it ain't coming. That's why I need all of your input! Peace policy
bushwacked
If the Hawks don't trade down; I think Curry or Monroe goes to the Hawks.

Peace policy Do you know what other people have picked? If it is a public place I am a bit surprised itr would not be updated after every pick to let people know how you are doing compared to everyone else - That would a lot more intrigue to the whole thing. Again good luck and started drawing up the plans to mount that bad a$$ plasma!!

Again good luck and started drawing up the plans to mount that bad a$$ plasma!! No, they collect all the picks about a half-hour ahead of the commish kicking it off. Then it's basically a watch party with door prizes, etc. They're scored on Sunday, winners are notified on Monday. You can tell by who's cheering who got what picks right . . . I'm now thinking that 3-4-5 is going to be Jackson, Curry, Crabtree, and then Sanchez at 8 to the Skins or Jets . . . Peace policy
theprofessor
1 (Lions) Matthew Stafford QB Georgia 2 (Rams) Jason Smith OT Baylor 3 (Chiefs) Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest 4 (Seahawks) Mark Sanchez QB Southern Califoria 5 (Browns) Tyson Jackson DE LSU 6 (Bengals) Eugene Monroe OT Virginia 7 (Raiders) Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri 8 (Jaguars) Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech 9 (Packers) B.J. I have the same first 6 picks as you do but I have Crabtree and Maclin going 7, 8. I then have Orakpo going to the Packers with Raji slipping down to Denver at 12. I have Michael Oher going to SF at 10 and Andre Smith going to Buffalo as you do at 11. Good luck! Papa needs a new TV!
policyvote
Okay, here's the final mock I turned in: 1 (Lions) Matthew Stafford QB Georgia 2 (Rams) Jason Smith OT Baylor 3 (Chiefs) Tyson Jackson DE LSU 4 (Seahawks) Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest 5 (Browns) Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech 6 (Bengals) Andre Smith OT Alabama 7 (Raiders) Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri 8 (???) Mark Sanchez QB Southern California 9 (Packers) B.J. Raji DT Boston College 10 (49ers) Eugene Monroe OT Virginia 11 (Bills) Brian Orakpo DE Texas 12 (Broncos) Aaron Maybin DE Penn State 13 (Redskins) Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio State Sanchez @ #5 definitely hurt; still, if the Raiders had not gone completely Al Davis and/or the Jags had taken Crabtree, it wouldn't have stung much. As it was, with the Raiders taking Heyward-Bey a round early, the Jags then snatching up Monroe, and then the Bills passing on Orakpo, My TV turned into a 4-way tie for second place. I lost all the coin tosses, and ended up with the fifth-place prize package. I mean, tickets to both Lions preseason games, an MSU ballcap and T-shirt, a tape measure, a cordless screwdriver, and a drill bit set is nice and everything . . . but the second-place package was a grill, a custom Lions jersey, the same tickets, etc. . . . I was a pick or two away from my TV. Thanks, fellas, for all the help; next year the damned TV is mine! Peace policy
