Lions fans rejoice!

Rejoice? A TE at #20????????????

I was a bit dismayed when the Lions took Pettigrew, as well. However, I read a little bit more (both on him and some of the probable logic behind taking him), and I'm not feeling so bad now. The kid is supposed to be a darned good blocker, which will give a big boost to the o-line and the running game. He's supposed to be a decent pair of hands, too.

While I wouldn't have minded Oher or Maualuga, they're both a bit flakey (from what I've read). Hopefully, the picks that were made will pan out.

lol @ that too. If Stafford turns out to be more than a serviceable QB (think Kitna with a few less turnovers) I'll be surprised, and a Harrington-type career would not surprise me.

Stafford won't fail like Harrington. That's not to say he can't bust, but we're talking about vastly different guys. Harrington was supposed to have the "intangibles" and a skill set to be a savvy, accurate NFL operator. He obviously lacked those skills. Stafford has the tangibles that Harrington never had. Whether or not he can develop the other skills needed to transition into a great pro remains to be seen.

Yea, I didn't see that coming. I figured O line at that spot. Hopefully they can pick up a solid guard on day 2.

As much help as the defense needs, Duke Robinson looks really good at number 65.

Pettigrew"s a little like having a lighter tackle that can catch. He owned Orakpo last season. He can seal the edge pretty well on that side.

I like the Delmas pick. They do need some blockers though.

I think they really screwed the pooch by taking Stafford. Another David Carr in the making. He could have been great but he's gonna get pummelled in his first coupla years.

Detoit is having a hell of a draft so far, although I am a believer that Stafford is a franchise QB.

I really like the Derrick Williams pick as well... One thing is for sure, this isn't the Matt Millen led Lions draft anymore.

You like it more than I do. No O-line help, hardly any d help....

This isn't a typical Lions draft. A lot of Lions fans aren't happy, which is probably a good thing. We're used to picking players that can barely address the holes on the team instead of drafting the best player available. With the first three picks, the Lions got the best QB, TE, and S in the draft. We also got a returner and special teams help. Marinelli left us very bare for special teamers. The Lions brass was smart this time by looking at the draft with long term vision.

Nailed it right here. Seriously, spot on.

Lions season-ticket holder Todd Taylor , who commutes from Chicago to attend Lions home games, and his buddy Jim Allen from Royal Oak were stoked when Taylor won a replica Kevin Smith jersey during the Lions' draft party at Ford Field.

But something was strange about the No. 34 jersey.

The Smith name on the back looked bulky. So they cut it off and were shocked to see the name Jones underneath.

It appears the Lions repurposed some old Kevin Jones spamshirts, turning them into Smith spamshirts and gave them away to season-ticket holders.

"It was kind of a punch in the stomach," Allen said.

"Coupled with the frustration of the draft, here is yet another piece of fire thrown in."

I disagree. Carr was thrown to the wolves in Houston and was beaten down every week. It does not look like Detroit will do that. I think he will sit year one and learn and that will help Stafford out a whole lot. Well, at least I am hoping that.

I agree with BigTen. I think he spends at least 10 weeks on the bench, although I think they sit him all year. I also think he'll end up being the next Carson Palmer opposed to the next David Carr.
