Randall
Have to be the Raiders Bey and Mitchell(a 7th round prospect) The Broncos trading up to take TE Quinn, a good blocker but is rated a late round pick. Denver sent both its third-round picks (Nos. 79 and 84) in this draft to get Quinn and the Steelers' fourth-round pick today.
Skilly
McDaniels on the Broncs picks: On drafting players at running back, defensive back, tight end "We've got depth at those three positions, for sure. In regard to the secondary, (CB) Alphonso (Smith) is very highly rated on our board. I know that I'm sure there are some questions surrounding the trade from one next year to two this year. He was extremely valued in our room. Has been all spring. We love his ball production. We love the fact that he intercepts the ball, he's a great tackler, a great kid, he's smart, can play in the slot. So, that gives us an opportunity to get a guy in there that's a very productive football player, that can help us both in nickel situations and in first and second downs. (S) Darcel (McBath), same thing. Started a lot of games. Not only productive in the passing game, but also a tackler, smart kid, very versatile, can play in the kicking game; which as I've mentioned all spring, we're not trying to just improve one phase or the other. But, both kids have the opportunity to help us in the kicking game. And (TE) Richard (Quinn), as we saw the day go, one of the themes - you know we saw the board get picked pretty thin. When that starts to happen, you ask yourself ‘should we go ahead and get a player that we really feel is going to help us pretty quickly and be here for a long time? Or, should we go ahead and be patient and hope that some of those guys that are left on our board are still on there when we're on the clock tomorrow?' So that was the reasoning behind moving up to get Richard Quinn late in the day and we feel very good about all three players." Link here That happens when you're not flexible and have to have a single player. There are several good TE's in this draft that can be taught to block and better receivers than Quinn. I like the Smith and Ayers picks.
AtomicCEO
Although the Broncos have traditionally wanted receiving tight ends, it is clear that whatever is traditional about the Broncos way of doing things has been set on fire and catapulted out of state. Maybe we are moving to a nw running style that relies on strong TE blocking and fewer passes (god, i hope so since we have mediocre-riffic QBs). I have no idea what to expect from the new Broncos, and I dont like the new coaches style. But that will all change of course if he wins games. There's a strong possibilty that we're all pissed off because this isn't the Broncos we know. Of course... the Broncos we knew were pretty darn good, so there are decent odds that any major change is likely to be in the wrong direction. I want the Broncs to win games, of course, but that coach is such an ass it's impossible to like him. I wonder what Nolan thinks of him? irish
Now NFLN is saying the Bears would have selected him 2 picks afterwards. Should've let them and avoided being the laughing stock of the league. Although Dallas isn't too far behind.
HowboutthemCowboys
Stephen McGee from a Cowboys' blog-- The team seems to think he could contribute as a Wildcat quarterback right away, but he did throw a lot in high school and the Cowboys also like his arm. detlef
Niners needed a DT and one with a 1st round grade was sitting there at their pick in the 2nd. What do they do? They trade that pick and a 4th for a 1st round next year and Carolina takes that very player. Assuming all the scouts aren't wrong, don't you think you'd rather have a guy who was graded out around #20 this year than a pick that will likely be around #20 next year? The Niners went from an A grade to a C+ right there.
myhousekey
Saints traded up from the 7th into the 5th....and then took a punter.
peepinmofo
Didnt CAR trade their 1st next year to get Everett Brown? Is it me, or does that seem like they gave up an aweful lot?

detlef
Didnt CAR trade their 1st next year to get Everett Brown? Is it me, or does that seem like they gave up an aweful lot? It's funny because I'm a Niner fan living in Carolina. Everyone out here is pissed they gave up so much and I'm pissed the Niners didn't take the guy rather than trading the pick. As I mentioned in my post a few before yours, dude had a 1st round grade so one could argue that they were trading a 1st pick next year for a guy that should have gone in the 1st this year only they get to pay him 2nd round money. What I don't think is taken into account enough when people get worked up about giving away future picks is the following. Assuming the guy is not a bust (and you can no more assume that about the guy you're picking right now or the guy you're going to pick next year). If a highly touted player was allowed to spend one year at the pro level and progress as a normal, then re-enter the draft, wouldn't he be worth more? Having now spent a year with the big boys? So, if a guy is thought of among the 25-30 best this year, all things being equal, he'd have to be thought of as among the 10 or so best among next years crop having a year under his belt. Thus, unless Carolina's 1st rounder is in the top 10, they're getting a "better" player than the Niners will be able to get with that pick. that doesn't even take into account the fact that you're on the hook financially for a ton less. BearBroncos
I wanted to wait and reserve any opinion about McDanniel until I saw what he would do in the draft...... After that being said, we're hosed. One of the worst defenses in the league, and he gets mainly offensive players.....It's raining men! Hallelulah! It's raining men!!!! I think mcdonalds knows that if the defense improves, but the offense sucks, the credit goes elsewhere. if the offense is OK and the defense continues getting bent over, maybe somebody else is the fall guy. Randall
Someone needs to remind him that the HC usually gets the axe if the team sucks. Especially when your defensive coordinator is a former head coach. It appears they may like Andra Davis better than most thought. They have helped the defensive secondary. Alphonso Smith and Champ Bailey may work out. Brian Dawkins may have a good year too.
Ziachild007
He didn't draft any linebackers and this was a good draft for OLB. You think so? I was thinking it was kind of weak for the position myself. Maybe 5-6 pretty good players, then it drops off significantly form there, IMO. I felt it was a week draft for OLB and with many teams switching to 3-4, males what is available even more less an attractive draft!
