Randall
"Undrafted free agents start By Greg A. Bedard of the Journal Sentinel Apr. 26, 2009 8:24 p.m. Note: Throughout the night Tom Silverstein and I will be updating this thread with any undrafted free agents the Packers have signed, or that the team has invited to their rookie orientation camp. Green Bay - The Packers won a five-team bidding war to sign versatile Northwestern University running back Tyrell Sutton. The Packers kicked in a modest signing bonus and signed Sutton to a three-year deal according to his agent, Alonzo Shavers. "It's a great place to go compete," Shavers said. "The big thing was that the Packers held to their word that they wouldn't draft another player at the position. They really wanted him. We evaluated the situation and we're excited for Tyrell to be there. We think he fits great." Sutton is 5-feet-8 and 211 pounds. A combine invite, he ran the 40 in 4.68 seconds, did 33 reps on the bench and had a vertical jump of 33 inches. He was Ohio's Mr. Football as a high school sdenior, and was a freshman All-American at Northwestern with 1,476 yards his first season. Sutton had two serious injures -- an ankle in 2007 and a broken wrist in 2008 -- that kind of sidetracked him. He was healthy last season and rushed for 890 yards with 305 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Sutton is known for being very tough and is built low to the ground. He can bounce off tackles. An excellent receiver, Sutton could fill a need as a shifty third-down back for the Packers. He doesn't have breakaway speed, but he's very quick. Other signings: Kole Heckendorf, WR, North Dakota State (6-2, 190, 4.44 40-yard dash) Carson Butler, TE, Michigan (6-5, 250, 4.72)" The Vikings usually do very well at this

dirtdickens
33 reps? Sutton has been passed over his whole career. He will make a team and play well when given the chance. Ohio State should have grabbed this kid a few years ago.

Robash
This list will grow over the next couple of days. And then, it could shorten by a few names because inevitably some guys fail physicals while others who reportedly have signed actually have not. But we do have a few names as to whom the Giants have signed - or soon will sign - as undrafted free agents. I can tell you DE Alex Field (Virginia) has signed a 3-year deal with the Giants. They were high on hi and thought he was a player they could have potentially drafted. Also, S Kenny Ingram (Florida State) has signed with the team as well. The Allentown Morning Call is reporting DE Maurice Evans (Penn State) was negotiating a deal with the Giants on Sunday night. Scout.com says CB Vince Anderson (Webber International) has agreed to terms with the Giants. NEPatriotsDraft.com (No idea what that is. Sorry.) says the Giants have signed S Otis Wiley (Michigan State). And the diehards over at BBI have their own report on S Sha'Reff Rashad (Central Florida) signing with the Giants. *** I can tell you the Jets have signed the following players: LS/TE Andrew Davie (Arkansas) OT Kyle Link (McNeese State) QB Chris Pizzotti (Harvard) DE Zach Potter (Nebraska) OT Tavita Thompson (Oregon State) DE Jamaal Westerman (Rutgers) *** And on the local front, TE Kevin Brock (Rutgers) signed with the Panthers. Also, K Piotr Czech (Wagner), whom I touted last year, appears on his way to signing with the Steelers. Czech was in camp with the Ravens last year but was obviously not going to beat out Matt Stover. http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2009/04..._signing_1.html
Big John
Oh look, the Raiders haven't signed anyone. How surprising... They have updated their list. Randall
Green Bay Kole Heckendorf, WR, North Dakota State (6-2, 191, 4.49 40-yard dash) Played at Mosinee. . . . Redshirted, then started four seasons. . . . Finished with school-record totals in receptions (178) and yards (2,732). . . . Has been compared to Bill Schroeder. . . . "He ran extremely well at his pro day and has really good hands," one scout said. . . . Vertical jump of 38, broad jump of 10-4, bench press of 14 and Wonderlic of 14. . . . Older brother, Keith, is offensive coordinator and QB coach at Western Carolina. . . . "Kind of a frail kid," another scout said. Carson Butler, TE, Michigan (6-5, 250, 4.72) Three-time letterwinner at Michigan...played in eight games in 2008, starting three...played in three games as a DE...two catches for 17 yards and three tackles...Could be a Connor Barwin-type player that goes from offense to defense. Jamarko Simmons, WR, Western Michigan (6-2, 231, 4.50) Spent first two seasons as a running back...Had 104 catches for 1,276 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior. 84 catches for 980 yards and six touchdowns as a junior...Was a teammate of Greg Jennings at WMU. JaRon Harris, WR, South Dakota State (6-1, 200, 4.46) -- according to kffl.com Father Ron Harris was a seventh-round pick of the Vikings in 1978 as a running back...JaRon grew up a Packers fan...Had 64 catches for 891 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior. Andy Brodell, WR, Iowa (6-3, 205, 4.53) Agent Jack Bechta confirmed Brodell's signing....Reminds many of former Iowa receiver Kevin Kasper for his ability to cover and return kicks. Brodell had six catches for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the 2006 Alamo Bowl. In 2007 he suffered a torn hamstring against Wisconsin and missed the final eight games. In 2008, Brodell had 961 yards -- 533 receiving on 36 catches and four touchdowns. Tryout invites: Rhyan Anderson, DE, New Mexico State (6-4, 283, 4.61) Former standout at Oak Creek High School, which has two other alum in the NFL (RB Brian Calhoun, Detroit, and TE Travis Beckum, picked by the Giants this weekend)....Top recruit from state in 2004 and rated No. 51 nationally by one recruiting firm. . . . "They had him standing up some and they'd put him down.". . . . Worked out like a phenom last month, including a vertical jump of 38 and one-half inch, a broad jump of 10-5 and 25 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press. . . . Scored 15 on the Wonderlic intelligence test. . . . Green Bay has talked to him because his size fits the 3-4 defense. . . . Considered a character risk by some teams. . . . "You talk about a guy that had all the athleticism. He should have been dominating those guys he played against and he didn't," another scout said. . . . Has had two major shoulder operations. Scott Witte, C, UW-River Falls (6-5, 328) Native of Cedarburg...Started three-and-a-half years...Weighed about 360 pounds as a freshman before getting into shape. Joe Lardinois, DE, North Dakota State (6-4 ½, 264, 4.81) Played at Green Bay Notre Dame. . . . Three-year starter with 20 sacks, six forced fumbles and 143 tackles. . . . "He played left end there but I guess for most teams he'd probably project like a 3-4 outside backer rush guy," one scout said. "He does flash some pass-rush ability. Just not a real consistent player." . . . Vertical jump of 34½ , broad jump of 9-4 and bench of 15. . . . "Good numbers, but they don't translate to how he plays," the scout said. "Average toughness."

Square
Local radio confirmed this morning that Joe Ganz (undrafted QB from Nebraska) was signed by Tampa Bay. It'll be interesting to see if he can compete with Josh Freeman (K state rival) who was signed in the first round. Ganz is a fighter and a heck of a worker. I hope he can find a spot as even a backup in the NFL.

j2v
They lost a lot of credibility with me after the false positive reports. At least they actually stepped up with a retraction and apology. ESPN just pulled the story and hoped the situation would go away. FWIW, I think maybe NFL Draft Bible hoped to hit the big time with a hot rumor (kind of like Florio and PFT with the Chad Johnson playoff locker room fight) and ended up falling victim to a faulty source. I don't know that anybody covers the small schools better than NFL Draft Bible.
Randall
They lost a lot of credibility with me after the false positive reports. Me too but I'll give them another chance on doing a list. They may be trying to prove themselves. One of their owners actually had a decent reputation until he delved into gossip. I will double check what they say. Randall
Apr. 27, 2009 10:28 a.m. Green Bay - Well, the Packers have at least one person to throw during rookie orientation. Utah quarterback Brian Johnson, the Mountain West Conference offensive player of the year, will attend the camp as a tryout, according to his agent, David Canter. Johnson (6-feet, 205 pounds, 4.88) led the Utes to a 13-0 record and a victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, where he was named most valuable player after completing 27-of-41 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns. A three-year starter, Johnson completed 673 of 1,017 passes (66.1%) for 7,853 yards, 57 touchdowns and had 27 interceptions. He also had 366 career rushes in the spread offense for 848 yards. Others signings: Andy Hartline, OT, Central Michigan (6-5, 285). A first-team all-Mid-American Conference selection at left tackle. He started 52 consecutive games, which tied for the longest active starting streak in the country....Hartline has a 3.41 grade-point average in business. He will be 24 in September....He's considered a large-frame tackle with the ability to put on more weight. Patrick Williams, WR, Colorado (6-1.5, 204, 4.49) Signing according to the school. Caught 30 receptions for 322 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 2008. Valuable on special teams units for the Buffs...Reportedly had a strong pro day workout. Did 11 feet in the broad jump, better than all but three players at the combine. Evan Dietrich-Smith, OT, Idaho State (6-3, 293, 5.13) Ronald Talley, DE, Delaware (6-4, 282, 5.00) Signed according to the school....Transferred after playing two years (five starts) at Notre Dame...Battled injuries so he never became the dominating player the Blue Hens envisioned. Ziachild007
Graham Harrell signed with the Browns Correction: Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell will participate in the Browns rookie camp this weekend, but hasn't signed a free agent contract yet. If all goes well, he hopes to be a Brown by the end of the weekend. "I'm very excited about the opportunity to come up there and compete," said Harrell by phone. "My agents said this would be a good opportunity to try to catch on with a team and I'm really looking forward to it." Harrell, who is believed by some to be a product of Texas Tech's spread offense, hopes to shed that image this weekend. "Hopefully they'll give me a shot to see if it was the system or if I have what it takes to play at the next level," said Harrell, whose No. 1 target was receiver Michael Crabtree, San Francisco's first-round selection. "I'd love to sign a free agent contract with the Browns and begin my NFL career there."

Menudo
Free-agent QBs sign deals Two rookie quarterbacks, undrafted over the weekend, have agreed to free-agent contracts with the Steelers, including one from the WPIAL. Kevin McCabe, who played at Pine-Richland High School and California University of Pa., and Mike Reilly of Central Washington will join the three veterans on the Steelers' roster. Two other undrafted rookies also are known to have come to contract agreements -- Portland State linebacker Andy Schantz, according to the Oregonian, and Pitt long snapper Mark Estermyer. According to Scout.com, other rookie free agents who came to agreements with the Steelers are Tennessee offensive tackle Ramon Foster, Hillsdale inside linebacker Tom Korte, Clemson wide receiver Tyler Grisham, and New Mexico State safety Derrick Richardson. The Steelers expect to sign up to a dozen rookie free agents this week to fill out their roster but the team has not yet revealed any of them. muck
Jets—TE J'Nathan Bullock (Cleveland State - Basketball) Bengals—WR Quan Cosby (Texas) Bullock was on Sirius this morning; the guy played QB, RB, WR, TE, DE, LB, and P in a Class A (the highest classification) HS and was the star of the Cleveland State basketball team that upset Wake Forest in the NCAA tournament Quan Cosby had Bill Cosby at his house for the draft. Apparently BC adopts a college team each year since his Temple Owls suck eggs ... and this past year, he adopted UTexas...and, then later found out that QC was on the team and ... maybe since Bill's own son Ennis died a few years ago ... BC wanted to come to his home and be a part of the Sunday draft-day celebration. How rough would that be to have BC in your house to cheer you when you get drafted only to not get drafted. Talk about doubly embarrassing. Probably for both of them... :yech:
