Rookie finance question...

I know most of these guys wont be signing contracts for a while, but I'm curious if they get immediate money from teams to live off of until they do. Surely they need money for food, housing, vehicle, plane tickets, hookers, and blow...just curious how these guys get the means to live until they sign deals, especially the guys drafted in the lower rounds who might not get immediate funds from marketing deals and endorsements

anyone know?.

I thought about this as well. It was either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe... one of them had a HUGH diamond watch. Now it might not have been real diamonds, but still... It was really big and blingy, and Im sure a guy like them wouldnt be wearing some fake watch on such a huge stage. And the suits... no way those are cheap suits.

They could just have credit though. Rack up a credit card, sign the contract, and pay it all off in a day.

Wish I could do that...

I was thinking about this too ... CIN signed Gary Russell to a FA contract a week or so before the draft ... they drafted a RB and promptly cut him (and Chris Perry). Did GR get any $$ (besides any possible small signing bonus)? I wouldn't think he did ... I think all pay is "game checks" and bonuses.

Which gets to another point.

If a player has, say, a performance bonus if they score 10TDs ... if they score their 10th TD in week 12, do they get their bonus check that week, or after the season is over? Or is that a contract-by-contract thing?
