My first draft of the year

I am only in the starting phases of rankings but for FF Index magazine they had their draft earlier this year. It is always one of the most interesting drafts of the year since it is the first one for everyone involved.

It is for a "all play" league where top scorers count as your starters (qb-2RB-3WR-TE-PK-DEF) and no PPR. QBs are all the higher scorers and WRs are not so much because of no PPR. Even a great TE is not that big a deal and yet DEF score about the same as top WR.

I opted for a "no rookie" plan this year. I picked #5. I wanted to get two top 10 QB, a decent set of RB and 2 good DEF. WR and TE are important but I consider them secondary to the other positons.

qb Aaron Rodgers 4

qb Carson Palmer 6

qb Brady Quinn

rb LaDainian Tomlinson 1

rb Marion Barber 2

rb Joseph Addai 5

rb Julius Jones

rb T.J. Duckett

wr Marques Colston 3

wr Laveranues Coles 7

wr Deion Branch

wr Devery Henderson

wr Bryant Johnson

wr Plaxico Burress

wr Laurent Robinson

te John Carlson

te Jeremy Shockey

pk Adam Vinatieri

pk Shayne Graham

def MIN

def BAL

def ARI

People LOVE rookies in this draft and the backups I wanted - Sproles, F Jones, D. Brown all went before I could get them. I picked up Burress as an 18th round lark.

I'll post the entire draft once I get it. I was surprised how WR and TE were raided in a non-PPR but whatever. About the only pick I really did not care for was Brady Quinn as the QBs were draining fast and I just missed some far better ones.

This draft is usually pretty indicative of how common wisdom is going to go and if so, then people are really buying into the rookie RB and WR this year. But it is going to be really hard to get the "sets" like T Jones/Green and Addai / Brown. Jamal Lewis lasted a loooong time. Moreno went about 4th round as I recall.

Wideouts seem no less a mixed bag this year. I'll post it when I get it.

25 Brandon Marshall (all those WR in a non-PPR surprised me)

98 Matt Ryan

Coles in round 7 should be very good value.

I will be interested to see where a guy like Greg Jones went in this draft as I think he will be a nice value in most drafts this year.

Really? :wacko: I wouldn't figure no more than 400/5 for the year.

Wow what a fall for Addai who went top 10 last year.

And yes, Coles in the 7th is fantastic value...PPR or not.

Also...interesting to see that Palmer is picking up steam. I don't think you will be able to get him in the 6th as we approach July.

Coles was the best on my board in the 7th to be sure and I was glad to get him.

Jones went 18.02 - pretty late IMO

I took him at the 5.05 as my third back which I was pleased with. But Donald Brown went 7.01.

I got Palmer with my 6.05 pick and was really happy he was there. I think a lot of drafters forget what he did until injured last year and though Houshmandzadeh is gone, I think others will take his place. I would take Palmer every draft if I knew he would be there at the 6th round.

Where did Ryan Grant go? Before the draft he was going 5-7th rounds.

Lynch before Moreno and Stewart? :wacko:

I don't think it's crazy at all. Chances are that he'll be on his best behavior and will only miss a game. If this happens, he should be draft WAY earlier than Moreno and Stewart. I think he destroys them talent wise. Stewart is firmly the no.2 back on his team, and Moreno, who I do like is a bit of a wildcard. Who knows what his role will be? Will he be in on goalline downs? With Lynch, you know what you're getting.

Yes I do. Lynch was a beast at Cal, and has been a beast in Buffalo. Stewart hasn't done anything at this level to warrent being placed ahead of him. Stewart needs to win the starting job on his own team before he can be in a discussion with Lynch.

And when he does, cause he will, we'll revisit this thread.

Oh yes he did.

And he is absolutely right . . . when talking about Jstew . . . . . :wacko:

:D stay out of this biotch.

That stach is the FURTHEST thing from Tom Selleck that I have ever seen.
