Duchess Jack
Does anybody have a link that lists active players? I am just looking for some prespective. I'd like to see what RB and WRs at 4.55+ are successful players so I am not scared off by slower times.
irish
I don't have a list at the moment (could probably look it up) but just for starters I believe that both Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin both had 40 times slower than 4.55. Could be wrong though.
Duchess Jack
wow, that's surprising to me. I just also saw that Rice had a 4.6 no need to go and look something up... if anybody should be doing that, I should. I was just looking for an easy way out. Mazerom
Just thought I'd keep tabs on you. I gotta know what kind of research you're doing so I can pilfer some of your desired players in our draft.
Bronco Billy
Not sure why 40 times would be any kind of deciding factor for whether you draft a guy or not. Transition from college play to the bigs requires a whole lot more than straight line speed against a stop watch, and even if you are looking at timed speed, guys run very differently on the field in game situations than they do in pristine settings on a track in a tee shirt and shorts. If you like a player, pick him up unless he posts a number that sends up a red flag (ie - a WR who posts a 5.22 40)

Seahawks21
Just goes to show football speed versus 40 times. Jennings in pads is one of the fastest players in the NFL, yet didn't run sub 4.

Deion is the only NFL player I know of who has ever run close to 4.20, and his was a 4.21. Widely known to be the fastest time ever run in the NFL. spider321
Many of the times listed here were clocked by the players' college coaches. VT players are known to "run" .5 secs faster when only their coaches are watching. If it wasn't electonically timed, the number is meaningless. ...and, yes, Green is one of the few listed here that really was that fast When they had the NFL's fastest man competition, he would win it EVERY year. BTW- If Ginn could run it in 4.06, he'd have a gold medal around his neck. 1. Ted Ginn Jr. (4.06) 2. Alexander Wright (4.09) 3. Michael Bennett (4.13) 4. Bo Jackson (4.14) 5. DeAngelo Hall (4.15) 6. BS Miscreant
BTW- If Ginn could run it in 4.06, he'd have a gold medal around his neck. Only problem with this logic is that a combine/football timed 40 is based on a watch start that begins when the player actually moves while track sprinters have to start after they hear the gun. The gun starting the clock creates a difference of probably a couple tenths. Mo Green has been clocked at about 3.9, as a 40 split, so Ginn would have some serious work to do to win a gold medal even if his football time was legit. Bronco Billy
I assumed he was talking about Ahman.... I thought so too. There was no question that Darrell Green was the fastest player on the field when he played, no matter whom they played.

dirtdickens
Ginn was smoked by top end sprinters when he tried his had at track his Fr year. Right now the best football player to use as a case study for this is Trindon Holliday at LSU. Holliday ran a 10.01 100m and I believe he was officially a 4.2something in the 40. I dont think people understand how few people actually run under a 4.4. Some of those times are so jacked, There is no way anyone is running a 4.06. The only way I see anyone running that is if it is the second half of the 100m when they already have a full head of steam.
