This is from a mock draft I was in for a magazine. It was a standard performance league scoring with no PPR. Which team do you think had a better start? Which one would you prefer to have?

Just to make it a little more informational, the poll is in the order teams drafted and the next available players are below:

QB Philip Rivers

QB Aaron Rodgers

RB Reggie Bush

RB Darren McFadden

WR Wes Welker

WR Chad Ochocinco

WR Roy Williams

The final team would be going first, etc..

I dismissed any team that took a TE or a QB that early

I choose:RB Steven Jackson, WR Calvin Johnson, RB Kevin Smith

Well, a TE doesn't make much sense to me given it was not PPR. I waited until the 9th round to take a TE myself because of the scoring rules. QBs may seem early but they are very high scorers when there is no PPR. Too early for my preference but I can see why someone would want to.

RB Chris Johnson, WR Randy Moss, WR Dwayne Bowe

I picked this trio considering they pick again soon...

but also like these:

RB Maurice Jones-Drew, WR Greg Jennings, WR Marques Colston

RB Michael Turner, RB Pierre Thomas, WR Roddy White

RB Matt Forte, WR Steve Smith, QB Drew Brees

This was easy: the Forte-led team. Top talent at all 3 spots already and least ? marks of any team. That's what you want with top picks.

But this is the team that the start built:

QB Brees, Drew

QB Edwards, Trent

RB Forte, Matt

RB Lynch, Marshawn

RB Jackson, Fred

RB Bradshaw, Ahmad

RB Jones, Kevin

TE Clark, Dallas

TE Miller, Zach

WR Smith, Steve

WR Gonzalez, Anthony

WR Coles, Laveranues

WR Mason, Derrick

could argue the RB are weak as maybe are the WR. This is also a flex league.

I love the Jackson/CJ/Kevin Smith Combo

You get a guy that is getting tossed around as a possible 3rd pick, and who I think has a very strong bounce back season

You get a top three WR

You get a great second tier RB who has a good opportunity to build on the success of his rookie year (Hey the Lions can't get worse can they)

I'd be thrilled to start my team with those three guys as the foundation.

The obvious downside is that two of your three marquee players are Lions, but so long as the drafter isn't Matt Millen, it'll still probably work out.

He must have followed up with Lynch in rd 4, Clark in rd 5, Gonzalez in rd 6, and Coles in rd 7. Those are solid, but also very ho-hum picks through the middle. His team might finish stronger than you think and could very well be one of the most consistent scoring teams in the league. Just because a team doesn't have much "wow" factor doesn't make it a weak team.

The DWill/Westbrook/Marshall team really intrigues me. If everything goes right for this owner he could reap massive rewards throughout the season.

But the risk? Whoa. Talk about swinging for the fences. That's too much gambling even for a dice roller like me.

I personally like the first team with ADP, Brown and Boldin. A lot depends on Brown, but I have a feeling he could be a top 10 RB this season being in his prime and 2 years removed from ACL surgery. We all know that Boldin is a beast as long as Warner stays healthy.

I can see why people like the Forte, Smith, Brees combo - but I'm just not that excited about Forte this year (and I'm a Bear homer - hope I'm wrong). Smith is solid and Brees is obviously an elite talent.

It's close, but I like the first team.

You wouldn't want Roddy White instead of Brees?

Tough call since you're gambling on who is avail at QB later - but IMO Brees is one of 3 totally "safe" QBs along with Brady and Manning and top picks aren't just about top production but the safety factor too. But yeah you could make a case for a great 1-2 WR punch there vs Brees.

You only asked about the first 3 mister. Really, hard to say for sure w/o seeing the other teams, but I think I'd take that argument - true non-PPR hurts Forte some but you also have Lynch (and his backup to cover) and K Smith. I'd say that's very good depth - WRs dicier but that's the price you pay for Brees, and those last 3 all have real potential and should be at least decent. Have a top TE too.

lol

I can't believe the MJD-led team is "winning" this poll. In non-PPR?

I have MJD projected out for #3 in total yards and #2 in total TDs which leads him to be #2 in my non-PPR rankings.

Not high on Forte because of the YPC he had last year and a QB that will not dump it off as much.

Love Smith as a player, but his QB will kill him and he is inconsistent.

Brees is my favorite QB not named Brady Quinn.

Where is Dmac going in ADP?

19th among RBs (assuming Darren McFadden)

I voted for team 1 with AP/Brown/Boldin but there were a couple of other teams that looked solid. In a non-PPR league I still don't believe the value pick is to take QB early and the team with Witten is already reaching in the third round. That's never a sign of a competitive team.

Before I lose ground, I will admit that I was team #2. I almost took Kevin Smith over Colston, but I figured by my 4.11 pick there would be no decent WR left and I wanted to see what this year would allow me to get away with on RB. This is the team I built.

5.02 Rodgers, Aaron

10.11 Delhomme, Jake

1.02 Jones-Drew, Maurice

4.11 Addai, Joseph

6.11 Parker, Willie

7.02 Benson, Cedric

15.02 Scott, Bernard

11.02 Keller, Dustin

2.11 Jennings, Greg

3.02 Colston, Marques

8.11 Smith, Steve

12.11 Washington, Nate

13.02 Muhammad, Muhsin

14.11 Akers, David

9.02 Baltimore Ravens

What surprises me is that this is the year where early picks should have less impact and yet most of you all liked the first three picks best. Maybe you just did not like what the final three teams did.

Team 10 has potential. They were one of the ones I really liked, but not as the best start out of all teams.

Team 11 took Witten, 'nuff said.

Team 12 is fraught with danger. Westbrook has questions because of injuries and perhaps some decent receivers and I love Marshall, not as much with Orton chucking him the rock.

You started out well but promptly shoved your hand into a nest of fire ants with the Colston pick. I'm probably in the minority but I truly believe that his best year is behind him.
