Is Ronnie Brown undervalued this year?

No Homer talk here boys but I feel like Ronnie Brown is undervalued. He's motivated for a new contract, a year removed from his injury and in great shape according to all the reports I've read. He's the centerpiece of the Dolphin offense and Ricky Williams isn't getting any younger. Plus the Dolphin O-line is steadily improving.

The only hesitation with Ronnie is his injury history but I think he bucks that trend this year so he can get another fat contract. He's also going in the 3rd or 4th round in most drafts staying under the radar. I plan on owning him for the first time ever and I think he's going to have a solid season. He could end up being a RB1 but will definately be a RB2. Thoughts?

He probably is underrated to some extent and I will target him it I can get him in the 4th round. The problem is that sometimes you can start to value players that you feel are undervalued so much they actually become overvalued and guys start to magnify the positives of that particular player and sweep the negatives under the rug. Case in point-Anthony Gonzalez. I see him going in the 5th round sometimes now in mock drafts and even though I feel like he will most likely be worth a fifth rounder that's not the point. You never ever want to take a guy early. It's all about value and guys loose their value if you reach for them instead of letting them fall in your lap . Back to Ronnie, as with evaluating any player you should take #1 talent and much more importantly... #2 opportunity into consideration. Yes he is talented and now another year removed from his knee injury which bodes well for him but don't forget he is still part of a two back system.

Ii took him as my #2 behind Steve Jackson in one league

Yes i could end up with no RB left on the field after a few games but if they both stay healthy i like the one two combo with McFadden also on my roster.

I have him as my 3, behind MJD and SJax. Feeling very good about it -- as I read that he's in better shape than prior years and ready to go.

I don't know. He had 1 rushing TD and 1 game over 70 yds rushing in the last 8 games of the 2008 season. He looks like a 4-6 rushing TD RB for his career outside of one game with 4 rushing TDs last year. He's only reached 1000 yds rushing 1 time in his career.

I worry that the Wildcat thing was a fluke and won't be as effective this year.

Not that I don't like him, but he's been taken earlier than I'm comfortable taking him in the mocks I've done.

Wow - either a 10 or 12 team league or you have nothing at WR ?

I have a feeling the 'Phins were going easy on Ronnie late in the year. He only got between 8-16 carries in any of those games. In fact, he only had 20+ carries twice during the season. I really don't think they were leaning on him hard so he could come back gradually from his injury. Ricky is expendable so IMO they were just trying to use him up rather than give Ronnie the full load. This year we should see what he's really made of.

Leaner, healthier Ronnie Brown: 'I think I'm more explosive'

Ronnie Brown feels much better about himself and so do the Miami Dolphins now that concerns about his knees and weight are long past.

Ronnie Brown knows that a year ago he was ahead of where he should be in recovering from a torn knee ligament. What ensued was the Miami Dolphins running back's first Pro Bowl season, albeit with statistics somewhere between mundane and magnificent.

So, compared to last year, Brown was asked, do you feel, stronger, faster or shiftier?

''All of the above,'' he laughed confidently.

Confident words and a confident air hang around Brown more often than in his past Dolphins seasons. Or, maybe ''comfortable'' is the better word. As in, he's more comfortable with his own body.

Two years ago, Brown's weight and conditioning were questioned. Too much of one and too little of the latter, went the whispers. While that never was proved one way or the other, no such questions remain today. Brown allows that he would like to be a little leaner, but when those passing the Dolphins practice field gawk at the size of Brown's thighs or arms, fat isn't a factor.

''As far as shape goes, he's outstanding right now,'' said Dolphins coach Tony Sparano, who often indicates when he thinks a player carries too much tonnage. ``That sounds like a company line, but I mean it. In the weight room the guy is super right now. He weighs 230 pounds, he's running better, he is stronger, so all of those things from a progress standpoint I see as positives.''

Last year, of course, Brown was just getting to know his body again after the ligament tear that aborted what had been a spectacular individual 2007 season after seven games. He had been on pace for 2,265 combined rushing and receiving yards when he got hurt Oct. 21 against New England. Last summer, he was just hoping to get back for some of training camp.

''The coaching staff stressed to me the need to be in training camp,'' Brown said, wallowing in understatement.

Said Sparano: ``I just watched film a little while ago, and watching the tape, he makes this catch on the sideline today, extends for the ball, and ends up really kind of hyperextending both legs to do this. No sign of any of those hesitations, any of those things that he went through a year ago.''

Brown's 2008 season, spurred largely by the four-touchdown game against New England out of the Wildcat, ended with the Pro Bowl. First-timers usually come back from Hawaii with new bits of knowledge gained from the Pro Bowl regulars.

Brown laughed that he learned, ``That I want to go back every year. Obviously, I've got to build on what I did.''

He said he also came back feeling as though he belonged there among the best in the league. So perhaps it is confidence you can feel around Brown, who says compared to last year, ``I think I'm more explosive.''

Which is what Sparano hopes. Brown's biggest runs last year came out of the Wildcat. Though Sparano lays some of the blame on the line for not opening holes consistently, he also knows he wants more 20-yards-and-over runs from Brown.

''He knows our system right now, understands what we expect from him, that is a positive too,'' Sparano said. ``I would expect that without hesitations, without any of those things right now from a physical standpoint, and without any of those limitations, that he takes the next step in having a super year.''

Ronnie is a fine RB, and was in fact the leading FF RB that season (07) before he blew out the knee, so the talent is there in bunches, however, NFL DT's have had a year( offseason) to study the wildcat, plus the Phins have the #1 toughest schedule in the NFL and will be facing some pretty tough DT's as well. The Phins will see the line of scrimmage stacked against them until they prove they can go vertical.......that being said Jr could be a nice break-out player this year.
