Wow. Must be alimony too.

Former Arkansas Razorback standout running back Darren McFadden reached a custody and child support deal to pay $8,000 per month to the mother of his 16-month-old son.

Kerri Lynette Williams will also receive a $10,000 lump sum payment in child support as compensation for McFadden's signing bonus with the Oakland Raiders, sources familiar with the case confirmed.

The parties reached an out-of-court settlement July 1, and the order is expected to be filed early next week.

Under the deal, McFadden has also agreed to establish a $50,000 formal educational fund for his child, whose name is Diesel Graylon McFadden.

McFadden, who lives in Little Rock during the off season, will get standard visitation rights, and the parties have agreed to allow more time for him to spend with his child when he's not with the team, said Frank Shaw, McFadden's attorney.

Williams' attorney, Kevin Hickey, said that deal is fair to both sides and good for the child.

"We were pleased to reach an agreement in this case as opposed to having an adversarial hearing. It's an agreement that we believe is fair to all parties involved, most importantly the minor child," Hickey said.

McFadden has never denied paternity and has been voluntarily paying Williams substantial support since the child's birth, Shaw said.

Before the deal was reached, McFadden provided Williams with a vehicle and had been seeing their child regularly, Shaw said.

"This is a nice lady, and they have a beautiful child that they both love and care for," Shaw said.

McFadden ignored legal advice and did not require a paternity test because he knew the child was his and did not want to disrespect the mother, Shaw explained.

McFadden faced another paternity suit in Pulaski County last year, but two paternity tests determined he is not the father. He insisted on tests in that case because he knew the child was not his, Shaw said.

The NFL's Oakland Raiders picked McFadden with the fourth overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft. According to the team's Web site, www.raiders.com, McFadden rushed for 499 yards on 113 attempts and scored four touchdowns with the Raiders for an average of 8.7 yards per carry in 2008. He also caught 29 passes for 285 yards.

McFadden rushed for 4,590 yards on 785 attempts, averaging 5.8 yards per carry, and scored 44 touchdowns during his career at Arkansas.

McFadden caught 46 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns at Arkansas. He also threw seven touchdown passes and returned a kickoff for a score.

In 2007, he rushed for 1,830 yards on 325 attempts, averaging 5.6 yards per carry, and scored 17 touchdowns.

McFadden is a two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up and a two-time winner of the Doak Walker Award, which recognizes the nation's premier college running back. He broke numerous school and Southeastern Conference records during his three seasons at Arkansas, establishing himself as one of the league's elite all-time backs.

If it is not just lawyer speak I have to give McFadden some more respect than I have in the past. I expect no accolades for keeping up my support for my child as it is the only right thing to do.

I know where this thread will go with the amount of money awarded. Sorry guys but it is based on what ya make. At least this kid is handling it that way.

Dude. If you have to pay child support, you want to be paying that much, if not more.

Think about it.

No doubt. That is if you understand how and why supporting your child is the only choice to make.

I think Furd is saying that if you're paying $8000, then you're making decent coin to begin with... I wish I could afford to give my son $8k worth of lifestyle a month.

If the mother is a 22 or 23 year old I don't think money is the determining factor in care. Money helps but isn't what determines good parenting.

McFadden's willingness to pay child support and do so without contesting it is likely in his son's best interests. (Interesting he knew that this one was his without fighting it, while accurately fighting the previous paternity suit against him). If the mom is content and can manage the money, looks like lil' Diesel will be well funded. It sounds like McFadden intends to spend some time with him, so that may help the boy. If you don't get to have a mom & dad who love each other and raise you together as a family, on the surface, this arrangement doesn't look like the worst alternative. Here's hoping, for the kid's sake, these two events get McFadden's attention and his zipper doesn't lead him down the path of Travis Henry (9 kids by 9 moms) -- as that eventually has to dillute what kind of dad you can be.

For anyone interested, Arkansas child support calcualtions are based on a chart established by the Ark Supreme Court. For one kid, you pay 15% of your net income, so it looks like McFadden nets about $54,000 per month. Kid would also be entitled to 15% of the bonus. These numbers may not be exact because they settled out of court, but I bet they are close.

Also, I am assuming that D Mac only has the one kid, becasue that would effect things as well. There were rumors last year that he had a few paternity suits, but I don't think that ever really materialized.

It says he owes 10k based on his bonus. He got off easy there being that he was the 4th pick and I'm sure got over 10m (probably more) in a signing bonus. I just read he got 26m in guarantees.
