Randall
They won't even do tape delays? "Jaguars fans in and around Jacksonville will not be able to see the team's two home preseason games on local TV -- neither live, nor on tape delay. Because the games are not expected to sell out, they can't be aired live locally under the NFL's blackout rules. And the team's preseason broadcast partner -- Fox and CBS affiliate WTEV -- will not produce the games for a tape-delayed broadcast, the station's general manager said. "The cost to produce the game is exactly the same whether it's in prime time or on tape delay at 11 or midnight," WTEV general manager Jeff Whitson said. "From a recouping-our-costs standpoint, advertisers are not going to get the same value and can't be charged the same. The economics of the game's whole plan change except for the expenses." http://www.bigcatcountry.com/
Donutrun Jellies
That's cold -- but hey, if the games aren't going to sell out ... you think they'll let the local public access channel set up a camera at the 50 and film it to run (over and over between reruns of the school board meetings)? jaxfactor
Doesn't surprise me one bit. In fact, I'm surprised the team is still in Jax. Won't be long IMO that we'll have the Los Angeles Jags.

Randall
Maybe the league should pass a rule allowing games that don't sell out for certain teams. Or the team could eliminate 20,000 seats. Make it an arena league configuration.
Big John
Or the team could eliminate 20,000 seats. Make it an arena league configuration. They already put just under 10,000 seats out of service for Jaguars games by puting tarps over them.

That's sad I don't see what is to hate about the jags (outside of division rivals). They've been more competitive than a lot of teams the last few years. Chavez
Jags fans are pathetic. I don't blame the fans all that much; I think Jax just isn't a major-league city.
'canes2004
Jacksonville just isn't a large enough market to support a NFL franchise. The sooner they're gone, the better. I can't wait until the day when we will no longer be forced to watch the Jag games because we're in their "secondary" market.
Big John
Hmmm, the NFL network said it's broadcasting ALL the preseason games, didn't it? Couldn't the local station license the tape-delay? NFL Network rebroadcasts the local feeds - the first half with the home team's telecast and the second half with the visiting team's. It looks like they would rebroadcast all of the visiting team's coverage if the Jaguars aren't airing theirs for the home team. I doubt that a Jacksonville station would want to replay the visiting team's broadcast.
jax20008kid
It's easy to sit back and bash the Jags or any other Florida teams for that matter. What people need to realize is that the majority of people who live in FL today aren't from FL which means that they are rooting for the teams where they are from and they don't buy season tix to the games. Miami doesn't sell out all their games, Tampa did for awhile when they got better, but they are starting to slack off some now. Baseball stadiums are usually about half full and basketball games don't sell out. Does that mean the cities all suck or the fans suck? No, not at all. And let's face it, there are a lot of other things to do in FL because of the weather being nicer. I lived in CA for awhile and they have the same problem, after all, even LA doesn't have a team and they are a major market. So, yeah, it's easy for people to take shots at the Jags, but there's more to it than just sitting there and saying the fans suck or the city isn't big league. Randall
Not the same by a mile. Come visit Jax one day and you'll see why. You're right. Green Bay's a real football town. I've been to Jacksonville. You should come to Green Bay. Contributor: Associated Press Last Update: 7/14 5:50 am JACKSONVILLE, FL (AP) -- In an effort to boost ticket sales in a sluggish economy, the Jacksonville Jaguars are offering half-season packages for half price. The Jaguars unveiled the new packages Monday, allowing fans to purchase season tickets to five of the team's 10 home games for $200. One package includes games against Tampa Bay (preseason), Indianapolis, Arizona, St. Louis and Buffalo. The other one includes games against Miami (preseason), Washington, Tennessee, Kansas City and Houston. The new offer comes as Jacksonville faces several television blackouts this season. Ticket sales have slumped in recent years, even prompting owner Wayne Weaver to cover up nearly 10,000 seats to lower ticket sales requirements. I'd rather sit in a stadium in 60-70 degree weather and enjoy a game as opposed to sitting in single-digit temps in Chicago or New York. Not to mention "there are so many other things to do in Fla/LA" - f*ck off. NY, Boston, and Chicago have ZERO problem garnering fan support, and it isn't as if those 3 cities are cow towns with NOTHING else to do in warm OR cold weather. Yeah, I'll go F*ck off, that's an intelligent statement if I ever heard one. I'm from NY and have lived in S. Jersey as well as GA, CA, and FL. I know all about weather, cold and hot. Yeah, there's a lot to do when it's 10 degrees out. And where are you sitting in a stadium at 60-70 degrees as opposed to single digits? Not in Jax. Most of their games start at 1pm and it's like a 120 degrees in the stadium until maybe the last game or two. So besides your compelling statements, why is it that almost every team in FL and CA has attendance problems? Miami, SD, and LA are major markets so what's the problem there. If you want to bash me, no problem, but at least have an intelligent answer to back your comments instead of things like "f*ck off or that's utter crap. Are you from Jax?...lol

I think this is a big factor. Their are a couple of sports bars that I frequent because of the Dolphins' game not being televised (for the Jags game no less usually) and they are packed with Giants/Jets/Steeler fans for the most part. Dolphin fans make up the majority of those watching the games, but the Northeast contingent, plus the occasional Cowboys' JA, are almost as equal. I think you would hard pressed to go to a random sports bar in those markets and find anyone there rooting for other teams in any kind of substantial numbers. Just a thought.
