Board Meeting: 10-Foot Pole List

The "10-Foot Pole List" has been referenced in these forums before (by Taz and I'm sure others). But that doesn't mean we can't bring it up again. Who's the player (or players) who, no matter how far they fall in the draft, no matter how many leagues you're in, will not be on any of your fantasy teams? And, of course, your reasoning behind the snub would be appreciated as well.

I would never say that there are players I would neve rdraft under any circumstance but there are several I know that will always go earlier than I would take them (or cost too much in an auction) so in essense I guess it is my ten fot pole list since I will not have any of them on my team:

Marshawn Lynch

Derrick Ward

Jonathan Stewart

Willis McGahee

Dwayne Bowe

Terrell Owens

Brandon Marshall

Antonio Bryant

Vincent Jackson

 Really?

For me, it's Chad Johnson (sorry, I refuse to use that other name).

I'm a fantasy wh*re, I'll draft anyone at the right price. I've changed my stance over the years. Don't get me wrong, there are guys I don't like and will avoid, but at some point if they were still available I'd take them.

I have nothing against Bowe who is very talented. I am just less likely to be the first person in a league who wants to draft him because of the switch at QB, loss of Gonzo, etc. He'll likely be fine this year as the only weapon of the Chiefs but I just sense more risk with him than I want to assume. And at the spot you have to consider him there are other alternatives I find more attractive. He's always going top ten far as I have seen.

probably the lamest reason out there and a little OT, but....for me, any Cowboy or Giant becomes someone I'll let another person have.

Several years ago, I have Tiki Barber in a couple leagues, and one particular Sunday with my parents over for dinner, Barber goes off for like 200+ yards and 2 TDs in a late Sunday game. I'm cheering his performance which sealed a couple big H2H December wins, while my dad is looking at me like I have lost my mind (since the Giants win did the Eagles no help in their late season playoff-seeding push).

It was at that point I remembered I am an Eagles fan first, fantasy football fan second....so unless there is a no-brainer, truly compelling reason to take a Giant/Cowboy/Redskin over another player, 99.9% of the time it will be the other guy.

That said, here are the other guys I'll let someone else overdraft

TOwens: just not into rooting for dbags, not matter what kind of upside they might possess.

Cutler: I don't beleive the hype....never did, likely never will

Burress: see Owens

Any Raider: you might as well play the lottery than try to figure out when a Raider is going to have a decent game. I draft players that I might actually want to start.

Well based on ADP, players that will probably be gone 2+ rounds before I want them. I'd draft just about anyone given enough rounds...

Tier 1 QBs in general

Jay Cutler

Anquan Boldin

Marshawn Lynch

Brandon Marshall

Reggie Bush

Pierre Thomas

While I am not sold on Cassel, he's probably more talented than Thigpen or whoever was throwing to Bowe last season. I don't think the loss of Gonzo affects Bowe too much. If anything, it may increase his TD total.

But I see where you're coming from.

Brady, Moss & Welker...FF is still a game and I have to be able to root for my players (at least to some extent)...I don't like the Pats and therefore wont own any of them*...and if I do end up owning one because it makes sense then you can bet your bottom dollar I am going to turn around and deal them for something else(which I have done with Moss in 2 leagues this year already).

*Owning their D players is a bit different because if they are racking up stats then they are spending a good amount of time on the field and hopefully that means their team isnt doing as well...but still if I can get away with not owning one I wont.

I'm the same as most here - there isn't anyone I wouldn't own if he was cheap enough. There are a few I won't be willing to pay the price for, like Reggie Bush, any tier-1 QB, Marshawn Lynch and this year Turner & Forte.

I have a little different take on the homer players, I won't draft a Cowboy except the K or D. It's like betting, I try to do with my head and not my heart and I'll always take one too early or play one in a platoon situation where it doesn't make sense.

There is no such player.

I'll admit, I'm a whore. If the price is right, I'll take any player who drops enough and I think will improve my squad - even Terrell freakin' Owens.

Now you'll excuse me. I need to take a long shower with lots of soap...

Westbrook - he would probably have to be drafted high enough that he would be your RB1, but he won't be able to stay on the field consistently enough to perform week-in and week-out as a Championship caliber RB1.

Pretty much the repeat offender knuckleheads. I generally like knowing if I'll have a player that will be playing on Sundays.

It may only be a 2-4 game suspension, but that could be a third of the fantasy season. More if they can't stop doing stupid stuff.

Good call here, although if he somehow slips to round 3 (no way it happens) or to a much lower price than he typically goes for, I'd have to take a chance on him.

Stephen Jackson

Carson Palmer

Deion Branch

Philip Rivers

Pierre Thomas

Marion Barber

Felix Jones

Thomas Jones

Ray Rice

Jamal Lewis

Knowshon Moreno

There aren't many of these guys that I absolutely wouldn't touch, just wouldn't touch them where they're being drafted. The first three will be taken much higher than I would take them. And Deion Branch, I wouldn't touch with Henry Muto's pole.

Thanks for reminding me of my $9,100 mistake. That was in week 15 that year. I had Barber in the Huddle MVP Challenge lineup until like 10 minutes before game time. Switched him out on a hunch. Wound up in 4th place instead of 1st because of that move.

I remember that game!! My roommate called John Clayton that saturday (it may have even been a saturday game) and Clayton advised him not to start Barber. He didn't and it cost him the championship as well.

Agreed. Bowe is going higher than I'd take him, but I see him as similar to R. White last year. IIRC DMD's opinion was "how can his output be any worse when his QB situation couldn't get any worse than last year". That isn't an exact quote but it's close. I like Bowe and I've posted before how it's confusing that people think Bowe won't do as well because Gonzo is gone but they think R. White will do worse because Gonzo is now there. I wish Bowe was going lower because I do like his upside. BUT, top 10 is too rich for my blood. I don't remember exactly where he ended up last year but I played him as a flex option so it seems like a big leap to see him top 10.
