DMD Posted July 20, 2009 Share Posted July 20, 2009 State of the Browns Cleveland is not shaping up too hot this year with the declining Jamal Lewis, an unsettled QB situation and no receivers besides Braylon "butterfingers" Edward and a gaggle of rookies. Now if only the rest of my league mates felt the same way about Detroit,Oakland and St.Louis, I'd get some pretty good value in the latter part of the draft. The guy is very proficient in the short passing game and the Browns went out and got a lot of guys that would fit nicely with Quinn. He wont ever go for 400 yards, but he will complete about everything he throws-including short passes in the red zone Derek Anderson. Very very good line, but no running game. I really liked trading down, was okay with taking Mack, thought Robo would have been there at 50 and then it all fell apart for me. Hated the draft. What Philly did would have been ideal. They got tremendous value with James Davis in the 6th round. His senior season aside (when Clemson's offense sucked), the kid is a very good runner. IMO, he is capable of starting immediately. The Irish Doggy Posted July 21, 2009 Share Posted July 21, 2009 The best thing the Browns have going for them offensively is the O-line IMO. That can cure a lot of ills for both the pass and the run. I could see Quinn as a bye week filler, but I don't think there is enough from any one RB to emerge as "the guy". It will be a lot of hit and miss rushing-wise, mostly miss IMO. I'm not sure who is the best bet for them." The Browns believe that nearly as important as finding the right QB is getting better play out of the receivers. They need Braylon Edwards to return to something approaching his Pro Bowl 2007 season and provide a big-play threat. If Edwards can do that, the Browns think Mike Furrey can help as a slot receiver. They consider receptions for first down a key stat, especially in third-down situations. In 2006, 54 of Furrey's 98 catches were for first downs. In 2007, it was 37-of-61. Last season, he played only nine games and caught 18 passes. They liked what they saw from the 32-year-old in minicamps. It's too early to say much about rookie receivers Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie. Like the QBs, the Browns want to see the rookie receivers under pressure and getting tackled. Robiskie had some excellent practices and some just so-so. Massaquoi had some good flashes. The Browns need at least one of these guys to become a viable player by the opener. right now, the offense is a mess and I would put everyone on my ten foot pole list. There's uncertainty at every position. In mock drafts neither QB is getting drafted. Braylon's going to go but folk's are relying on a return to his 2007 aberration season. The TE, and no one knows if that's going to be Rucker, Royal or even Heiden, isn't getting drafted though that might be the one to grab off this offense. That blind approach has gotten me to 5 superbowls. I've won 2 championships, finished 2nd 3 times, 3rd once and only missed the playoffs twice in the 10 years my local has existed. Granted I am a Steelers fan so I have a natural aversion to Browns. They truly stink. I actually went against my better judgement and drafted Winslow last year and regretted it. Davis put up VERY solid numbers in 4 years in the SEC, and I believe was considered a day one pick had he come out as a junior. If you look at how Jamal couldnt break anything longer than 7 yards last year because his quickness sucked, it looks like we got another player like that. I like James Davis, but he wont work out.
