What draft position are you looking to get this season?

I'm always curious about this, especially considering the fluidity of this year's top 10 RBs . I'm looking to get a later draft spot, preferably in the 7-9 range in a standard 12 team. Unless I get AD at 1, I'd rather wait and see what value drops in the first round. I've even seen LT2 fall past 6 in a few mocks, which I would love to see in one of my leagues.

I like the later part of the draft. I like to go WR WR or WR RB so drafting later gives me a better pick coming back down the draft.

I really like the higher draft spots this year much more than I have in about 4-5 years.

 

The top 3-4 RBs have separated themselves from the pack, and there is a lot of parity in the top WRs after the top couple of guys. With the mindset of FFers starting to trend to picking WRs in the first round now, having a top 3 pick allows you to nab a stud RB and then come back with significant flexibility and leverage at the end of the first/top of the second turn with a RB/WR or WR/WR combo dependent upon who is dropping. Then at the 4/5 turn you can look for a top QB who has dropped, a top TE, or looking for bargains in the RB/WR slots.

 

It really sets the table for a very solid and deep team.

I find this to be a really curious statement.

 

To my eyes this is a very tricky draft, and after AD the risks pile up quickly. I don't see a separated top group, and I'm not all that sure that the consensus top group is going to be close to what are the top players at the end of the season. MJD, Forte and SJax don't light my fire as sure things.

 

The reason I say this is because I don't see the risks being inherently greater at the end of the first round as compared to what you find early. If I can't have the top pick, I'll take a pick at 9 or later.

I prefer either a middle pick (5-8) or a late pick. Picks 9-10, in that range, are early enough so that you still have a crack at Fitz and it's late enough that you can go WR or RB in the fist and still walk away with a stud at the other position early in round 2. It would be easy to walk away with Fitz/Slaton or Andre/C.Johnson or even Calvin/SJax is fine by me. Also at that spot you have many more options, going WR WR can even make sense if you can get two of the top 3 guys. It seems like a lot of guys will fall in my lap and I end up getting great value out of my picks with a middle spot so I'm also found of those picks. Picks 1-4 can be brutal almost everybody knows that that has played this game for any length of time but if you change your mindset and draft differently from those spots knowing that you have to start runs on players instead of waiting to see what falls to you, an early draft spot can net a better overall roster than any other spot in my opinion but it's just tough to pull off. Whatever spot I end up with I always feel confident that I have put in more time and energy into preparing for my draft than has any other person in that draft room by far and I believe that I am at least as knowledgeable as anyone else in that room and really that is what counts the most. If you are prepared and you are taking it seriously you have much better odds of coming out on top regardless of your draft spot.

That's where we disagree completely. I think the risk is extraordinarily low with all three of those RBs. There's admitted risk - but not much, IMO. Barring injury, I think you're looking at 4 guys when you include AD who will finish as top 6 FF RBs, with Peterson being the most probable to end up in the top 3. I'd throw Turner in with that bunch also (and put him ahead of SJax) for a very nice top 5 - almost enough to be willing to drop into the 4-6 range, which is normally a spot I hate to be in.

I agree 100%. I have the #2 pick which I will take my stud RB, then turn around and take two of these WRs (Smith, Wayne, Colston, Boldin, White, Bowe, Jennings)

(2 local $$ leagues, one 10man standard scoring start 1QB,TE,PK,DEF:2RB/WR. and 2nd 12man Standard 1QB,TE,PK,DEF,2RB,3WR nither have PPR)

 

In our ReDrafts we always draw out of a hat that day; (so no prep ahead of time as far as knowing which spot you will draft from) so since that is the way, its been my practice (past few seasons) to try to know as much as possible I can coming in, and try to figure it out not having the 1st pick.

 

Typically I have had trouble in the 5,6,7 spots in the 10man league and 5-9 in the 12man as most of the "get aboard" runs start -or dry up- in these spots when we draft..(espeically early in my Fanball drafting days.) it also has been helpful for me to go into the draft and have an alternative strategy the picks in the mid-or-latter-half of the draft(s)...

 

But to answer the question directly, I prefer the 1-3 or 8-10 (1-4 or 8-12) as it seems easier to match up team (value) needs at the start/end of rounds..except if rampant runs start on a position I need.. in the middle I feel like I always end up stretching a bit to get my roster "ideally" filled out

 

This year seems maybe 4-7 may be tough spots to draft from (so there is where I will plan from first) as I see the most difficulty from those spots potentially in those spots early in the draft...trying to match up/build a team around some question mark #1 RBs...hmmmm?
