After carrying the ball on a running play, Williams went to the sidelines and appeared to be in pain. He was taken to a tent and examined by trainer Ryan Vermillion, but later was able to jog back onto the field for the team huddle with Fox at the end of practice. As to Stewart - I'm be a whole lot more worried about a RB with an Achilles tendon injury who still isn't up to speed that a RB with a jammed toe who says he is okay. And shame, shame, shame on you, Taz, for celebrating an injury. The FF Gods are watching, my friend. Keeping a very close eye on Goodson right now. He could be a stellar pick very late in FF drafts. Even with both Williams & Stewart being 100%, he brings a real different dimension to the game. Word is out that CAR is finding all sorts of ways to utilize him in order to get him some touches. Menudo Posted August 9, 2009 Share Posted August 9, 2009 I've never seen a guy with such different opinions on him than DeAngelo Williams. I've seen him ranked as high as #2 at RB and have also seen him in the 20's. First, I admit, I am a DeAngelo owner. I just don't understand how anyone can have him ranked in the 20's. That just seems crazy to me. Yes, he has a tougher schedule this year, and is unlikely to finish with the same numbers as last year (He was the #1 RB in our league). However, if you actually watched him last year, the guy has ridiculous skills, and I simply can't see him falling off as much as some are predicting. Personally, I have very little concerns that he will be a Top 10 RB this season, as I think he is too talented not to, unless he gets injured. I guess time will tell. So I don't see how a RB (who couldn't unseat DeShaun Foster before last year) in a time share facing one of the toughest schedules is a near lock top 10. Let's face it - DeAngelo was a steal last year but provides chitty value this year being drafted in the top 10 considering his situation. It would take Stewart getting hurt for DeAngelo's value to get there IMO. And that's something you don't necessarily plan for (unless you're drafting Pierre Thomas I guess). I would MUCH rather draft Stewart who has more upside (since there's nowhere for DeAngelo to go but down from last year's stats). Other than the schedule, what is different about this year than last ? The comment about him un-seating DeShaun Foster means nothing, as that was then, this is now, and when given the chance during those seasons, he played very well. Last year was the first time he was given the chance, and we all saw what he did. I still don't think he will provide chitty value being drafted in the Top 10. I think his value will be slightly down from last year, but, I anticipate him having another great season. Last year was no fluke, this guy is VERY talented. Edit to Add: A couple other things I liked, his numbers at the end of the season were phenomenal, so, he got better as his first pro season progressed. Second, he played some highly ranked defenses during that run and did just fine: #5 Defense (New York Giants): 24 carries, 108 yards, 4 touchdowns #10 Defense (Tampa Bay Bucs): 19 carries, 186 yards, 2 touchdowns #11 Defense (Atlanta Falcons): 19 carries, 101 yards, 1 touchdown Edited August 9, 2009 by Menudo Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My biggest complaint about DeAngelo haters is that they all chirp about how he's "nowhere to go but down". Well, duh. He had one of the greatest individual seasons an RB has ever had. There is a distinct likelihood he won't hit the TD numbers, but there is no reason, from talent, to past performance, to track record of the Carolina offense, to track record of Jonathan Stewart, to historical performance of players who achieved the level of production Williams had in '08, that would suggest he's going to drop off the map. Jonathan Stewart has more to worry about with his history of nagging injuries involving his foot and Mike Goodson than DeAngelo Williams has with falling out of the top 10 of RBs. Now if you want to talk about "value" picking, I agree there's a possibility that Williams can go too high and you need to be careful with where you draft him, but I'd feel really confident with a back-end serpentine that nets me Williams and Moss or (either) Johnson. It's pretty clear that DW was leaps and bounds more talented than Foster. Good point. Anyone who throws out the "he couldn't beat out D. Foster" line clearly knows nothing about Carolina and coach John Fox. Fox sticks with his vets to a fault. He's always done this and it's painfully obvious to even the casual observer. I will not be drafting DW as a top 5 back this year. I could completely be wrong, but I think he really comes back down to earth. I don't think he drops off the map, I just don't think he'll have the success he did last year. Why? I think alot of teams will focus more on stopping the run this year against Carolina and force Delhomme to beat them through the air. That's really about all I've got as to why.
