I found that headline @ ESPN after someone told me about Avery and I didn't believe them... Worst case scenario looks like he would be unavailable week 1 and would start week 2 of the regular season if you count 6 weeks from today. Still it's a pretty big blow to Avery owners if you are counting on him as your #3 wide out. Not only will you be without him opening weekend but these things can linger . If you own him i'd hold on to him but missing the entire pre season alone could set him back quite a bit. Coach Steve Spagnuolo revealed Sunday that Donnie Avery will miss 4-6 weeks after an MRI showed more damage to Avery's foot that the Rams originally thought. Avery doesn't have a fracture, but it sounds like he's got a pretty severe sprain. His status for Weeks 1-3 is in jeopardy. Keenan Burton and Laurent Robinson started Saturday's scrimmage and will likely be St. Louis' first-string wideouts on opening day at Seattle. Avery will miss valuable practice time in the Rams' new West Coast offense. Downgrade him in fantasy drafts and keep a close eye on his recovery. Foot sprains tend to linger There.. details were never important though the point is it's a foot injury and foot injuries can be complicated with rb's/wr's. Last year alone we saw a few guys miss big portions of their seasons and their performances affected even when they did play because of a toe injury. I haven't heard the phrase ''high ankle sprain'' associated with this yet so I guess that's a good thing. STL Fan Posted August 10, 2009 Share Posted August 10, 2009 Bulger, who looked shaky at first at the team's recent scrimmage, recovered to look fairly sharp at the end and hit Avery a few times before Avery got hurt. The thing to keep in mind is that Avery is not big, he's not experienced (1 year), and he's not a great route-runner yet. He is a burner, and a foot problem is not a great thing. Also, FWIW, Bulger hit McMicheal several times in the scrimmage and the team says the new "west coast" stye offense will make good use of him. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it. The injury could mean Avery, who played at the University of Houston, will miss the first two regular season games. He was hurt in Friday's scrimmage. This is why it's important to know what the injury was (and note that it is not a sprain). If the injury was a significant contusion or your run-of-the-mill inversion sprain, we'd be looking at a 4 week window with few potential concerns beyond that time. But a high ankle sprain of a stress fracture? Now I agree, this could definitely be something lingering and could affect Avery well beyond his projected recovery window. Vicster Posted August 11, 2009 Share Posted August 11, 2009 (KFFL) CBSSports.com reports St. Louis Rams WR Tim Carter stepped into the starting rotation in place of injured WR Donnie Avery (foot) during practice Monday, Aug. 10. I do not know how accurate that is or how much Carter filled in for Avery. But I think it should be worth noting that Carter has 7 years experience, although he did take 2 off to pursue non-football interestes, and has experience with the coaching staff from his stint in New York. Carter could be a dark horse to claim the overall 2nd or 3rd WR option on this team over Burton, Robinson, and Curry. I know people are pimping the latter players, but I believe Carter should at least be in the conversation as a possibility. However small....
