has anyone seen this??? i just noticed on my fanball site that your can buy insurance for players on my team. i haven't found out how much it is or who can be covered but don't you think this a getting a little out of hand. injuries are a part of the game...isn't that why we draft backups.

An insurance company in Long Island is offering insurance on your fantasy football season. And we can’t say we here at “SportsBiz” are too surprised.

 

The Web site for Fantasy Sports Insurance Inc. quotes my article from last year when it was estimated that Tom Brady’s injury could have shifted $150 million in fantasy winnings.

 

The idea is pretty simple.

 

If any of the stipulated top 50 players go down for a significant part of the season, and you’ve paid for their insurance, Fantasy Sports Insurance will pay your entry fee back.

 

In order to collect, you have to select a player (one policy allows you to group three players), pay the insurance –- roughly 10 percent of your entry fee -– and watch that player miss roughly two-thirds of the games with an injury.

 

I think some leagues might insist on staying away from this idea, as some might argue that it takes the fun out of a horrible injury. After all, everyone was laughing at the guy who took Brady last year. If he had insurance, the joke wouldn’t be as good.

 

But Henry Olszewski, who is one of the two brokers who dreamed up the idea, said that some leagues are requiring fantasy players to buy insurance. Why?

 

“The nightmare scenario is the guy who loses his player and either starts trading away his team or sits idle,” Olszewski said. “That affects the entire league. If that guy has insurance, he’s playing with the house money and that guy has more motivation to see what he can do to be competitive.”

 

Olszewski said that the brokerage, whose policies are underwritten by Lloyd’s of London, has sold close to 400 policies so far and that they expect business to pick up over the next week.

 

What about players who can't be insured, either because they are not in the top 50 or they are viewed as an injury risk? That list includes Ben Roethlisberger, Fred Taylor, Torry Holt, Brett Favre, Matt Cassel and Chad Ochocinco.

I call bs on this. This dude is just trying to drum up business. Could you imagine being in a league that required you to buy insurance? i mean, get real. Not only that, i don't see how that would impact how you played out the season. You've still got the same team.

Ok, for a $10 investment, I can recover 100 back for league fee and Websites I subscribe too. Why not just select S Jackson, B Westbrook, and Kurt Warner. The odds have to be pretty good those 3 combined could miss 18 total games, in 15 weeks.

 

I think Id pay 10 bucks to gain 100. Isnt this just another form of gambling.

ELIGIBILITY

 

Fantasy Sports Insurance is open to: (a) Registered members: ( legal residents of one (1) of the fifty (50) United States, Washington DC and Canada (excluding Quebec); and © at least eighteen (18) years of age or age of majority at the date of registration. Void in the states of Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota, and Vermont and elsewhere where prohibited or regulated by law.

 

Employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives and their immediate family members (and those living in the same household) of Fantasy Sports Insurance or sponsors of any Contests are not eligible to win any awards.

 

CANCELLATION

 

Fantasysportsinsurance.com reserves the right to cancel or terminate the product/service at any time prior to the start of the regular season of the respective sports in which coverage is being purchased, due to an act of terrorism, an act of God, or any other event or reason in their sole discretion. If such cancellation occurs, then Fantasysportsinsurance.com will return all premiums and fees collected from participants. Fantasysportsinsurance.com is not responsible for any losses or liability for any losses claimed by any participant or co-manager due to cancellation of the Contest.

 

DISPUTES

 

Any disputes or appeals regarding the products and services will be decided by Fantasysportsinsurance.com using its interpretation of New York State Insurance Law. Any and all disputes must be submitted via email to the website administrators. The deadline for submitting a product or service dispute or claim is midnight EST prior to the start of the first regular season game. All rulings made by Fantasysportsinsurance.com are final and binding.

 

 

 

Claims

 

Claim Notification and Payment

 

Clients with a valid claim will receive payment for policy within 30 days following the final game of the respective seasons final regular season game. By purchasing Fantasy Sports Insurance, the client grants permission to Fantasysportsinsurance.com to use their names and/or likenesses for publicity and promotional purposes without further compensation, unless prohibited by law, and agree to execute a written consent.

 

 

 

PRIVACY POLICY

 

All information collected about you during registration for use of the Services will be used in accordance with our Privacy Policy and all applicable laws.

 

PASSWORDS AND SECURITY

 

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password, and are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your password. Fantasy Sports Insurance cannot and will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to comply.

 

MEMBER CONDUCT

 

You agree that in connection with your use of Fantasysportsinsurance.com, the Services, and the Content you will not:

 

a. Upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of anyone's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable:

i. Intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law.

 

USER MESSAGES

 

With respect to any messages, information, data, graphics, photographs, images, creative ideas, concepts, know-how, techniques, suggestions or improvements or other content that you transmit, submit, post or upload to Fantasysportsinsurance.com and/or in connection with any of the Services (each, "Message"), you are, by transmitting or uploading such Message, granting Fantasy Sports Insurance a perpetual, royalty-free, sub-licensable, non-exclusive, worldwide and irrevocable right and license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, translate, prepare derivative works based upon, and distribute such Message for any purpose and in any form. This license is granted automatically and no payment of any kind will be due to you. At times, Fantasy Sports Insurance may solicit Messages from users. Your provision of any such Messages in response to a solicitation by Fantasy Sports Insurance shall be subject to a grant of a license to Fantasy Sports Insurance as specified above.

 

When any user posts any Message to Fantasysportsinsurance.com or any of the Services, Fantasy Sports Insurance shall have the right, but not the obligation, to review, edit or delete any Message for any reason, at Fantasy Sports Insurance’s sole discretion. It is Fantasy Sports Insurance policy to fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities and court orders which request or require Fantasy Sports Insurance to disclose personal information or the postings of anyone posting Messages to Fantasysportsinsurance.com or any of the Services. INDEMNITY

 

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Fantasy Sports Insurance, the directors, governors, owners, other officials, partners, partnerships, principals, employees, affiliates and other related entities, servants, agents, representatives, successors and assigns from and against any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of Messages you post to, submit or transmit through Fantasysportsinsurance.com or the Services, your use of Fantasysportsinsurance.com or the Services, your connection to Fantasysportsinsurance.com or the Services, your violation of the T&C, or your violation of any rights of another.

 

MODIFICATIONS TO FANTASYSPORTSINSURANCE.COM

 

Fantasy Sports Insurance reserves the right at any time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, Fantasysportsinsurance.com or Services (or any part thereof) with or without notice.

 

TERMINATION

 

You agree that Fantasy Sports Insurance, in its sole discretion, may terminate your password or use of Fantasysportsinsurance.com and/or the Services for any reason, including, without limitation, for lack of use or if Fantasy Sports Insurance believes that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of the T&C. Fantasy Sports Insurance may also in its sole discretion and at any time discontinue providing Fantasysportsinsurance.com or the Services, or any part thereof, with or without notice. More like a passage in the Healthcare bill....... Looks like a bunch of minutia that clears them of most claims!!

No joke, after copying and pasting here, which you cant read on their site. They basically allow themselves out of every claim with the bold highlights I pointed out above. Not to mention they claim they can discontinue at any time for any reason. So basically if a player gets hurt before the season starts, he can be deemed ineligible to pay out.

 

 

This sounds more like a scam. And I thought it might be worth gambling by picking certain players getting hurt to collect 10 times the amount paid. Instead its, pay us, and we will deny your claim if we can. Oh and we keep your payment, regardless. Thanks for subscribing

Well, there it is. This whole thing has no value other than what people pay to them. They can change the terms so that they have no obligation to anyone at any time.

 

Courts may see it differently, as they are being unjustly enriched and that they have breached contract by withdrawing their consideration in the contract if they were to modify the terms, but you'd have to get them into court - which most probably isn't worth the fees/time to do so.

 

In other words, they are hoping that they can prove PT Barnum correct yet again.
