Jase82 Posted September 3, 2009 Share Posted September 3, 2009 Hey guys, My draft is on Saturday, and I'm doing all I can to get ready. I've got a pretty good draft strategy, but a big part of it is relying on Larry Johnson's production. What have you guys heard about him? I realize he didn't look great last season, but he was injured, and the season just before last he put up monster numbers. What is your guys take on him? Also I'm thinking about Carson Palmer, Tony Romo, and Donovan McNabb. Which one seems in line for the best season? Im liking Palmer because he was consistent before his injury, and I can pick him up late. Will Vick cut into McNabb's numbers? If you look at what he did last year, he really wasn't bad - hell, he avg'd 4.5 ypc. Assuming he stays healthy, I think he easily eclipses the 1000 yard mark again. Jamal Charles is nice and all, but he's no grinder. LJ is the victim of a horrible offense, but I think he does just fine this year. I'm not a Romo fan this year and you have to be very leery of him in the playoff weeks, as I think he has a history of really sucking late in the season. McNabb is the safest of those 3 picks, I think - but Palmer has the best upside. With a re-dedicated 85, Coles and Chris Henry, I really like him if he stays healthy. The projected record of the Chiefs leads me to believe that Johnson won't exactly play with a ball of fire. I don't have projections, but I'll pass. By game 9 I don't see him getting over 15 carries on a regular basis. Palmer and the Bengals have been so bad that I can't imagine having to rely on him. If you can get McNabb as the 6th QB or below, he is the one to jump on. Romo just doesn't have the weapons, and I think the Cowboys are going to lean heavily on their ground game this season. Motivation-wise, Haley seems like a good coach and motivator, so I can see LJ being ad mid-range RB (lower RB2) depending on format. He doesn't step into throws anymore. He doesn't look comfortable in the pocket. He gives up on plays and brings the ball down. He stares down receivers. The complete lack of a running game and/or offensive line has gotten to him. It is a little bit like David Carr syndrome. Throw in the fact that he still doesn't have a line, running game or TE, and you end up with a gunshy quarterback that has receivers with two guys draped all over them all game long. Looking at their talent I would think the chefs best chance at success would be to play keep away ginding minutes off the clock with Johnson and leaning on what looks like an improved defense...but the chef's offense is really bare. The O-line is bad, and they have no NFL quality receivers after Bowe, so he'll probably face 8 in the box all season. I've heard from several chef fans that they think LJ is a bum and they wouldn't mind if he were cut, so that's not good, but on the other hand he seems to be motivated this season, as he came into camp 15 pounds lighter, and the team has praised his work ethic and dedication... and Haley has not been shy about calling out slackers and malcontents this summer. That 1000 yard 7-8 TD projection is probably pretty accurate, but I think he could be really good with a better offense. Getting him around the late 5th round for a guy that should get over 1000 and 7-8 TDs aint bad. He doesnt have a huge ceiling, but he DOES have a reasonable floor if healthy. Chadman Posted September 4, 2009 Share Posted September 4, 2009 Chief Dick, I was really impressed with Cassell in the Viking game, and if he has that kind of pocket presence and awareness, I think the entire offense gets better. Of course he's hurt, and I don't know how badly, but if Bradley plays as well as he did towards the end of last season, they could be ok. Especially if LJ is lighter and motivated. The line will be bad, and I don't know how the firing of Gailey will shake things up. I'm also wondering what the mood of Waters is... I know he was pretty ticked last season, and they'll need him to be good. Thanks for your thoughts. Hoping to catch a game down there this season.
