kingfish247
Why did Atlanta let L. Robinson go I thought he had high hopes in that city only to see him in StL now. Technically ATL didn't let Robinson go. ATL traded him to StL so ATL could move up a few spots late in the 2009 draft. There were a few reasons: 1) He missed a lot of time last year due to hamstring and knee injuries. He missed all but 6 games last year. 2) The shift in offensive philosophy from Petrino left a guy like Robinson with no significant role on ATL's offense. They had White, Gonzo, Jenkins, Finneran, Douglas, and Booker. What's left for Robinson? 3) He didn't contribute on special teams. 4) Dimitroff had nothing personally invested in a 'Petrino' guy. 5) Dimitroff was able to move up and fill identified team needs. Robinson was traded to a team where he immediately had a chance to start. It was a win, win. ATL and Dimitroff might regret sending him to StL without getting very much in return but teams weren't exactly knocking down ATL's door for Robinson. He also just happened to land on a team so strapped for WRs Robinson could actually start. The team also just so happens to probably be playing from behind quite often so that will further inflate the perceived disparity in the trade. In the end, I think Dimitroff was smart because it was unlikely that Robinson would have made the final roster so instead of just stringing Robinson along.... Dimitroff got something in return and Robinson landed in a perfect situation. Edited September 14, 2009 by kingfish247
