Chief
From NFL.com NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora has confirmed a report by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that 49ers team president/owner Jed York has offered to hold a face-to-face meeting with holdout Michael Crabtree. York has yet to hear back from Crabtree or his agent, Eugene Parker. Crabtree was the 10th overall pick in the draft and is the only first-round selection without a contract. The receiver caught 231 balls for 3,127 yards and 41 touchdowns at Texas Tech. They're not going to offer this bozo more money are they?????????? Let the ass sit would be my approach. If the guy or his agent won't return a call to the team owner then his career and rep are through.
cdrudge
The Niners are reported to be offering Crabtree $200k less than a week ago.Is that suppose to read they are offering him $200k less then what they offered him a week ago?or less then a week ago, they offered him $200k? If it's the former, understandable. If it's the latter, ouch...waterboys get paid more then that.

For every practice and every game he misses, they need to deduct the amount he would have been paid for that work. Regardless, Crabtree will be a Niner and all this will be forgotten the game he catches 11 passes for 170 yards and 2 TD's.

They worked out that each game over the 5 year contract would be $200k so they are reducing the contract by that amount for every game he misses. They haven't reduced the offer per se as long as they measure it in games, which makes sense.
Chief Dick
York should have met with him BEFORE the draft.

sportsfreak475
fixed for accuracy. The situation as a whole just boggles the mind. I don't understand how Jed York has not yet met w/ Crabtree and his agent, what the hell is going on? Nothing about this makes any sense. The only thing that makes sense at this time would be if Jerry Jones personally or maybe through Deion told Crabtree that he would take him in the next draft...but even that couldn't be guaranteed because after March or whatever it is, the Niners could trade him anywhere... Bug Hunters
reportedly they offered 1 dollar less than the number 9 pick. why should a 10 get more than a
Grimm74
So his opportunity loss will be what 3-4 Million dollars this year minus any endorsements(Anyone got a real number I just guessed). Does Crabtree really think he can make this up next year? This is insane....

They're doing this and I've also read they're willing to offer an incentive laden contract with less up front but which would max at at one dollar less than the #9 pick. How in shape will he keep? You get your window, you take it. What a dumbass. I wish more teams in all sports would hold the line on money when an unknown talent enters a sports league. He could not go through combines again without the 49ers permission as they hold the rights until the draft begins if he remains unsigned. SF409ers
are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the deadline for trading his rights have passed and they could only trade his rights if they drafted him again in 2010. To trade him, they'll need to sign him first. Nope, starting March 1st up until the start of the draft they can trade him. He may not work out for any other team before the draft without the permission of the 49ers and may not play for the 49ers this year if he is not signed by Nov 17th. IIRC the original offer was something like 5 years for $20 million w/ $16 million guaranteed. They are deducting $200K a game for every game he misses which comes from the 5 year (80 games) $16 million guarantee. There is also talk that they are willing to offer him a deal w/ incentives that would put his total deal at $1 less than that of the 9th pick Raji. I have not heard anything about him not wanting to play for the 49ers because of the QB situation, from what I have been reading it's always been about perceived value. I understand the 49ers position to not pay him more than his slot even though I would love to have the kid signed.

Coach1310
Crabtree and his entourage are MORONS!! Sign a deal for millions guaranteed, put up some big numbers and you will get paid plenty!! Who is advising this yahoo??? Part of me is starting to think that he is concerned he isn't as good as advertised and won't get another NFL deal..... this is starting to look like the Mike Williams situation..... remember how well that went for him when he had to sit out a year??? Mike Williams is exactly what I was thinking...If he sits a year there is no way he is going in the top ten. I cannot see anyway possible that he can make up the money he will lose in his first year. What other players have held out for extended periods of time as a rookie...wasn'ts a big name player one like Emmit Smith...

If this was the case he'd have inked the deal on offer in a NY minute. His problem is the exact opposite - rampant ego.

SatchDork
He picked the absolutely worst year to pull this crap (well, not like the year was really his choice). With the labor stuff on the horizon, some sort of tiered rookie cap on the table, and the fact that there is absolutely no way possible he goes anywhere NEAR the Top 10 next year (since the 9ers won't let him work out for anyone and, that aside, he's a confirmed problem child). . .just take the money and run, dude. This kind of thing just boggles the mind. Making up numbers here, but how can you look at an offer of "$15 million this year or $1 million next year" and go "NO!" stompstomp "Mel Kiper said I would go in the Top 5!!! I WANT $20 MILLION NOW!!!"? I. . .just. . .don't. . .get. . .it
