Giants vs. Dallas Game

I just got done watching the game again play by play now that I am calmed down and I will tell you the Cowboys played very good football for 3+ quarters including Romo. Romo's first pick if you watch closely was a perfect pass to Crayton for the first down. Roy Williams pulls his hands down so as to let the ball go over his head and he BEAT the rookie corner so bad on the hook/slant route the Rookie should never have been there when the ball was thrown, he should have been driving on Roy which would put him out of the play and we have a first down and more to Crayton. At the time of the pass both Roy and Crayton are open had the Rookie been doing his job he would not have been thier to make that play.

Conclusion: Perfect throw, bad luck. Watch it again!

The second Pick Romo throws behind Witten who just gives up on the ball (unlike him) and bounces of his foot into Phillips hands.

Conclusion: I see that pass 100+ times a year go incomplete next down. Bad Bounce

For three quarters of this game the Cowboys Defense stopped the Giants rushing attack, pressured Manning and held the Giants out of the Endzone inside the 20 four times twice as a result of turnovers back to back. The D forced 5 punts on 10 possession heading into the fourth.

Dallas Scored on 5 drives and punted 4 times. And scored on EVERY opportunity inside the Red Zone.

Now with 1:34 left in the third, the game is 24-20 with Dallas having all the momentum and just had forced a three and out, Dallas has the ball at the and the lead at the Cowboys 46 YARD LINE.

Now we have been killing the Giants with Barber and Jones all night, WHY HAVE A PASS PLAY CALLED AT ALL! WHY.

This is where the game changed for good. Instead of pounding the Giants into submission and going up 31-20 RUNNING THE FOOTBALL, someone decides to get cute. Now I don't know who owns the blame here but if Garrett called that play I blame him, but Romo has got to find the Safety on that play or don't let the ball leave your hand. No reason to go deep unless he sees a WIDE OPEN receiver.

Up to this point in the game in my assessment the game was totally in our control in spite of the turnovers. Scandrick had missed several tackles, and Newman uncharacteristically had given up a Touchdown and plays down the field. By the way that was NOT PI on Newman on first down in the third.

On a side note, I figured out why Newman is not an elite CB, he can't find the ball in the air. I have looked back for the past three years and he is in position to make picks but either gives up a completion or breaks it up because he can't find the ball in the air and cover at the same time. Steve Smith from Carolina beat him on that Touchdown in the playoffs in the corner when Newman had perfect position and again Sunday what should have been a pick or break up to Manningham on both the PI and Touchdown pass were a result of him not being able to do both things at once which will always be his Achilles heel.

However, now back to the game, after that pick, the Giants had life again. This is what Garrett a young OC and Romo a third year starter has to learn. When in a totally superior position in a game you can't give the other team life. Period.

Now in the forth Quarter the Giants started to execute just like in the Super Bowl. They beat our secondary to death but it was mostly Eli being great and his recievers running excellent routes.

Despite all that went wrong the Cowboys STILL lead the game 31-30. Not that tells me something. Romo can play at a very hight level. The Defense can stop the run and Romo has the ability to shake off mistakes and get his team in position to win.

Bottom line for me this, with a little over 3 minutes on the clock and the Giants starting at thier own 25 Scandrick give up three plays in a row and losses the game. The D could have and should have won that game.

Which brings me to my last point, we are missing one thing and that is a Defensive leader like Ray Lewis who just say's look this game is over they are done moving the ball. Ware is not him, no mean streak, James MEHH not him either, Ratliff could be but with a young starting secondary someone has to step up and lead them.

I will tell you this to finish, the NY Giants got ran all over, and got stuffed in the running game but was allowed to rally by one play call. Eli was given an opening and he did it.

But from what I saw after watching this game again and again, Romo is a darn good QB who will learn to manage the game better. He didn't have to throw all game so why start when you are on the 46 and the Giants D has not stopped you at all rushing and short passing. WHY?

When Scandrick and Jenkins play their game this team is going a long way this year. I am calling it now and we can revisit it later but this game was not lost by any one player, I put this one on the Defense and Jason Garrett for even allowing Romo to think pass in that situation.

The Giants are a Great football team and you shouldn't even be in the game against a Great football team with 4 turnovers in their pockets to your zero.

Positives out of this game far out way the negatives.

No Sacks given up to the vaunted Giants pash rush

Overcoming adversity to still lead in the end

Shutting down Giants Run D

Running all over the Giants D

Good pass rush despite no sacks, Manning was pressured well.

Special Teams was Solid

Negatives

Turnovers

Bad play call

Secondary Coverage when you have 6 to cover 3 as well as pass rush lacking sacks

Finally, THIS IS WEEK 2 People, I had to remind myself of that and Philly and Washington have thier own problems, which are much worse.

Prediction holds, Cowboys 12-4 and Romo throws for 35+ Touchdowns. We beat Carolina on Monday night 31 to 13.

Brilliant analysis. I agree, the Cowboys most definitely should have won that game, they were completely dominant. They are clearly the class of the NFC East and the odds-on favorite to almost win a playoff game.

No.

Yeah, I didn't want to either but the more you watch it the more it become obvious that Rookie was lost and beat and was in the right place at the right time as a result. So tell me this why was he exactly in no mans land leaving both Crayton and Roy wide open? Who was he covering? The exact space hoping Romo would throw it there which he did. I call that luck not good coverage. His job was to jump Roy and prevent him from catching the pass or tackle him if he does, either way he should have been driving on Roy Period.

Thoughtful analysis, but the bottom line is that this team is soft on defense when the game is on the line. Every time. Been that way for years, hence the 14 year playoff drought. Until that is fixed, this team goes nowhere.

Give this man a cigar. Perfectly said. Does sort of allude to what Cowboyz said though too. We have no leader on D and no mean streak. You see Ray Ray swallow up Sproles ? Thats what leaders and ferocious football players do. Make all the excuses you want about Romo. I am glad he breathed life into Dallas when he took over for Bledsoe but if he doesnt learn to protect the ball and man up in a big spot we are done. Soft D and no leadership is no way to go through life son.

No sacks,no forced turnovers.

No, the Cowboys defense did not do anywhere near enough to win this game.

ETA: Oh, and you still have the same big game/small QB thing going on....any, and I repeat, ANY, game worth a lick, the guy is broootal.

We Need a playoff win badly. A lot of people in dallas are already jumpin ship but its alright. Cowboys take losing to damn easy, They need to get thier asses ripped by media and everyone else. They have the tools to be a VERY good team. But some positions are very young and orhave NEW players that need to adjust and get a bit more comfortable with the offense/defense. .

Here's a few off the top of my head . .

2nd year Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins(1st Round pick) alternating starts. . .

After Ellis was released Anthony Spencer(1st RD pick) becomes a starter. ..

Zach Thomas was shown the door and Kieth Brookin isnow manning up the middle with Bradie James

Igor Oshlansky is now starting on the Right end with Demarcus behind him

Pre madonna Owens is now with the bills as Roy Williams Crayton Austin Miles Sam Hurd and others try to pick up some slack

2nd Round Pick Martellus Bennet has seen lots more action as dallas uses more 2 TE sets trying to exploit defenses with his 6'6 265 frame

This is only Felix Jones' 2nd year after he battling injuries that paused the cats 8.9 average

Gerald Sensabaugh becomes our starting safety with Ken Hamlin and re unites with Dave Campo and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis

Big games aren't easy to win, you should no that after being to 4 straight then a SuperBowl and winning NONE of them.

Romo is still learning this game but is on pace to smash a lot of records and win many big games to come. He will get his chance. They said the same things about Eli and Payton until they won. This is Romo's third year people and what he had done already is astonishing as far as numnbers. He will win big. I bet there are probably 28 teams that would take Romo over who they have now tommorow.

Now that's class.

If the only problem was inexperience, his numbers would be lacking across the board, not just in big games. If you look at his body of work, the turnovers spike every year beginning in December. That's not "learning the game" or "not getting his chance" -- he's blown every big chance he's gotten. And he's on a team loaded with Pro-Bowlers.

You cited Eli and Peyton, but they were winning close games from the beginning, rallying their teams to comeback wins even in the midst of ups & downs. Eli especially is a guy who elevates his game dramatically in the 2-minute drill. By contrast, Romo falls apart whenever he has to step up and lead his team and it rubs off on everyone else. Also, in all seriousness, you have to question his priorities when he's had these issues and still chooses to date high-profile women. It is possible that he simply lacks the competitive fire that other QBs possess, the guys who live and breathe football and don't allow other distractions into their heads.

First off, intoxicated, your avitar is lame because a star looks absolutely nothing like the vowel it is standing in for. Unless you intend to say FACK THE REST, that is.

Mostly though, there are maybe 3-4 teams that are so bad that they still can't win consistently even if they put it all together. So, all you're saying here Cowboys1, is that they're better than those teams, which is really not saying much.

As it is, they are smack dab in the middle of a pack that contains a ton of teams that could be great if they consistently execute and either sack up or do the right things when they need to, but, for whatever reason, don't.

One of the most underrated notions in sport is the ability to be a man. "He's got so much talent, if only..."

If this was a team full of Rudys and guys were saying, they have so much heart, if only they weren't all 5'8" 170, we'd easily dismiss that notion as silly. However, we assume that anyone can just flip the mental switch to step up provided they have the physical tools. Maybe many who don't actually can, but it's certainly not so easy that we can just assume it will happen without the right coaching or leadership. That's why guys like Cower and Bellicheck always win and guys like Phillips don't.

Dallas is obviously and sorely lacking this from the top down. How else can you explain the fact that they keep changing names on the spamshirts but still end up the same.

If it were a perfect throw it wouldn't have been a pick 6 and it would have snuck into 1 of the cowboys hands PERIOD! :D It was fun to watch Jerry's different faces as they had the game won :2cents: Until the Giants snatched victory away in their new spaceship stadium :D:D:wacko: Now that was entertainment! :D

PERFECTLY stated. This makes me wonder if one of those better coaches could fix Romo or if he's just not one of those guys who have the heart. I bet we'll find out next year.

How many big games did McNabb win to get to those four five NFC Champiionship games? Too many to list.

I can name ten QBs I'd take over Romo, just off the top of my head: Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Ryan, Cutler, Rivers, McNabb, E. Manning, Schaub, Roethlisberger & Warner. No brainers. All have done more with less. Most are better leaders.

Romo has had (in the last 3 years) a Pro Bowl 3 WR, a Pro Bowl TE, a Pro-Bowl RB, and multiple Pro-Bowl OL....and he still can't win.

Ugly.

God, as much as I hate to say this, detlef is right. :D Someone above said 20 teams in the league would prefer Romo to what they have now. Bullsh!t, horsesh!t and dogsh!t. I can maybe come up with five-seven. Redskins might trade Campbell, but then again, he takes care of the football. No team in the NFC south would take him, except Carolina, and that's a coin flip. Not TB because they wouldn't trade a known turnover machine for the promise of their just-drafted 1st round pick. NFC North??? HA!!! Then there's the west, and I doubt even Shaun Hill would be traded for him, because again, Hill takes care of the football. In the AFC, Parcells might trade him for Pennington, but I doubt it, because he HATES turnovers. In the North, the Browns would, maybe the Bengals (but I doubt that). In the south, I don't see a team other than Jax, and Del Rio hates TO's. Now the west is some fertile ground in the AFC, with the Raiders and Broncos both as yeses. So that's possibly Campbell, Delhomme, Hill, Quinn, Pennington JAX (name escapes me right now) and Russell & Orton in the west. That's 3-4 definites and an additional 4-5 Possibles. The QB talent is in the best shape in the NFL that I can remember in a loooooong time.

You don't win turning over the football, period. At this point I'd much rather have Kitna in there. Kitna doesn't have phenomenal escapability but he takes care of the rock and has enough arm to make the throws. With that running game and o-line what else do you need?

Signed,

About to switch allegiences to the Falcons. SELL THE TEAM, JERRY!

Romo is still learning this game but is on pace to smash a lot of records
What meaningful QB record is he on pace to smash? Favre owns just about every significant record, and Manning continues to rise on those record lists as well. Both didn't sit on the bench for 2.5 years either so they have a statistical head start at their ages. Do you really, seriously, think that Romo is going to catch them?

This is Romo's third year
as a starter. He had several years riding the bench developing skills instead of being tossed into the fire immediately.

what he had done already is astonishing as far as numnbers.
Meh. Pretty good, but I wouldn't say astonishingly better then some other QB their first years.

I bet there are probably 28 teams that would take Romo over who they have now tommorow.
In no particular order, Indianapolis, New England, Atlanta, San Diego, New York (Giants), New Orleans, Green Bay, and probably Pittsburg are all teams that would most likely would keep who they have now over Romo. That leaves 24 teams left that might consider it...and I bet a decent number of them might keep who they have now given the price that acquiring Romo would cost or the loss of chemistry/rapport with existing team personnel.

Edited to add Green Bay to the list of teams
