I just saw this on aol. It is hypothetical but since this week marks the 72 year anniversary of the movie they were asking who would you cast in the main parts with todays actors and actresses

Dorothy-

Tin Man-

The Scarecrow -Jim Carey

The Lion-

I have to think about the others

Remember, there is lots of singing / dancing ... so, you have to find people who could carry a tune ... I'm going to add in some other important characters to Whompers' list ...

Dorothy: Reese Witherspoon (remember, she sang her own stuff in Walk the Line when she played June Carter Cash and can have a young/innocent thing going on) ... or ... Miley Cyrus (i.e., Hannah Montana)

Tin Man:

(singing a duet in a Woody Allen musical/comedy in 1996)

The Scarecrow: Dave Grohl (he always strikes me as someone who could act)

The Lion:

(singing and dancing)

Wicked Witch:

Oz: Dominic Chianese

Muck as a casting director = epic fail

Dorothy - Natalie Portman

Tin Man - Hugh Jackman or possibly Will Smith

The Scarecrow - Billy Crystal

The Lion - Jack Black (Muck nailed it)

The Wizard - Dustin Hoffman

Wicked Witch of the West - Glenn Close (her role in Fatal Attraction still freaks me out)

Auntie Em - Diane Wiest

Glinda the Good Witch - Scarlett Johansson

Toto - Puddy

Oh - by the way, I cannot get the picture of Megan Fox as Dorothy out of my head.

I could go for all except Paltrow. She just doesn't have a wicked witch feel to her.

Dorothy- Demi Lovato

Tin Man- Hugh Grant

The Scarecrow -Jim Carey

The Lion- John Goodman

I have to think about the others

Added Demi Lovato as Dorothy. She is a disney channel product. She has a really big voice

John Goodman gets my lion vote. He can sing as well and has the look

Im gonna go Hugh grant for the tin man. The tin man always came off to me as speaking very proper and english like. Grant also is bumbly.

Edited; moving Gwyneth to "good witch" and adding Meryl Streep as "wicked witch".

those right there are great choices. portman was the first person I thought of for dorothy when I clicked on the thread. I'll also throw out steve carrell for tin man, woody allen for the wizard, and ricky gervais for the lion.

This one's really good. I think that's a lock.

That IS good! How about:

Wicked Witch: Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi

Wizard of Oz: Obama

Good Witch: Sarah Palin

Tin Man: George W. Bush or Al Gore (If I only had a brain!)

We could have lots of funny Lollipop kids with Tony Cox and Mini-Me
