Wow ... can somebody explain this trade to me?

Team A gives

Willie Parker

Derrick Mason

Team B gives

Brian Westbrook

What am I missing

1) Willie Parker has turf toe and will miss his 2nd week in a row, probably will miss more

2) Mendenhall had a great coming out party in his first start this year that may have put FWP out of a job or at a minimum cut into his carries

3) Pittsburgh has not had their off week yet, Philadelphia is just coming off theirs

So is Derrick Mason the thing that makes this trade? Mason's last two weeks have been pretty good. The team getting Mason has these RBs/WRs

LMcCoy

RRice

LWashington

AJohnson

JCotchery

HWard

PCrayton

Is Westbrook hurt more than I know that he will be missing games?

I don't see a problem with it. Looking at just Westbrook and FWP, their average game stats are fairly comparable. Both are also being challenged by younger players and both missed some time for injuries. Both also seem to have taken a step back from what their fantasy value was the past few years. FWP injury seems to be the worse between the two as it may linger for some time but I think he'll continue to play. It's obviously a risk...

Clayton I think also just just adds a little more depth to the WR corp. I wouldn't call it the icing of the trade, but it sweetens it up a little more because of the risk with FWP.

seems fair enough to me. Westbrook has his own questions. Willie has done poorly and bouce back in the past and Mason has been on a tear in the last couple weeks. I don't know if I'd make the trade - but I have no problem with it at all.

+1

This would raise ZERO questions in my book

I'm the commissioner and I pushed the trade through as soon as team B cleared a roster spot for the extra player - we don't have trade vetoes in our league. So this is not a question about fair or unfair ... I don't care about that. No my real question was why in the heck would team B make that trade (I can see why team A makes the trade)? I was wondering if I was missing something that was causing me to value Westbrook or Mason too low? While Westbrook is always an injury risk he is just coming off a bye week, played going into the bye week and doesn't have a current injury ... FWP is currently injured with one of the worst injuries a RB/WR can have - turf toe. Additionally Mendenhall may have further reduced FWP's value.

Westbrook was inactive week 3 prior to the bye with a ankle injury on the same foot he had surgery on in the offseason. I think there is definite potential for further issues throughout the season.

Apparently, you have never endured the frustration and sheer agony of being a Westbrook owner. You greatly overestimate his trade value. Any past Westbrook owner here will attest to his failures to come through in the clutch, persistent injury problems and overall underachievement. Any Westbrook owner who has tried to shop him will also tell you that many owners wouldn't give up a beer and a hotdog let alone anything of value for him. Westbrook is the riskiest #1 back a team can get. My guess is that this Westbrook owner has had enough of him and took the best deal he could ge to extricate himself from Westbrook purgatory. There is absolutely no problem at all with this trade. None.

I, too, was a frustrated Westbrook owner in a keeper but was giddy as hell earlier this week when I opened up a trade offer and was being offered Marion Barber for Westbrook straight up. I don't think I've ever hit the accept button so quickly.
