Maroney's value

With Taylor out, should Maroney's value go up considerably? I have to think so. I know it's really hard to tell with the Patriots but he was good once....right?

I see opinions that Morris will get the work but Maroney has received more touches so far.

No

No, never good, but looked like he may of had some potential. But that was long ago.

I think we're going to see a lot more Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk, with the same amount of Lmo. Until he gets another nagging injury.

as we all know, stay away from the Patriots RB's unless you have NO other option.

Here's BB from yesterday, which I think is what you will get, he may use anyone of the 4

at anytime and any situation, 3rd down, goal, pass, run.....I know BB still likes Maroney, he would

have had a couple good size plays last week if not for them being called back on penalties....swim at your own risk.

How does the loss of Fred Taylor affect you guys and what adjustments have you had to make?

Belichick: "Well, we’ll have to try to figure that out. That’s a good question. We’ll have to try to figure that out between now and game time. We have confidence in all our backs. We have four other backs on the roster, so how all that will work we’ll have to see how it all materializes. As we all know, that could change during the game anyway just like it did last week. We have to be ready to adjust to it, but we have confidence in everybody. I’ll have to wait and answer that after the game."

Well, that's as clear as mud. It took 8 sentences to say absolutely nothing. Typical Belichick.

Really, don't bother reading/listening to anything BB says. I live in New England, it's a joke here.

And the RB situation is a 4 headed monster, sub in BGE for Taylor. That's all.

Maroney isn't good enough to warrant any more time than the others, so it will continue this way as a rotation.

I grabbed morris of the WW for a bye week fill in, I hope it pays off.

With Maroney's history, I wouldn't place his value any higher than a guy of the practice squad.

In my 11 national leagues the trend was that Morris is the big pick up...he went from $138 to $450.

I picked him up in a few because I would only go around the $138 range I wasn't going to unload all my FA money on him because NE RB's are sharing anyway.

Maroney did not even get picked up in a few leagues and even got cut in a few this week still.

He did get picked up in a few for $25 to $75.

Green Ellis I took a stab in 1 league for him for like $11 but mostly he was ignored.

You really never know what will happen.

In my local league I dumped Maroney last week but got S-Morris this week.

I think all 4 are in the mix with Morris being the main ground guy and Faulk the 3rd down back but Maroney will be involved still about the same as he was before.

You never know though.

Maroney now under the microscope

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 10, 2009 2:57 PM ET

It wasn't that long ago when Patriots running back Laurence Maroney looked like a solid first-round draft pick.

He put up 939 yards from scrimmage as a rookie while playing behind Corey Dillon, then started the majority of the undefeated regular season for the 2007 Patriots, topping 100 yards four times in his last six games, including the playoffs.

He's disappeared since, though, causing many to wonder what the heck happened. Including Maroney.

"What am I doing differently?" asked Maroney on Friday to the Boston Herald. "I come to the final conclusion that I'm not running the way I used to run. I got to get back to the basics."

Maroney is averaging just 2.9 yards per carry this season after only playing three games because of injuries in 2008, but he has a chance for a bigger role now that Fred Taylor is out indefinitely.

Maroney wears his emotions on his sleeve and his effort has never been questioned. He admits that it's tough to watch his old University of Minnesota backfield mate Marion Barber have such great success as a pro.

"That's the saddest part for me," Maroney said. "Just seeing how great they talk about [barber] and he's definitely like my big brother. But I'm like, 'Man, that used to be both of us. L, you used to run just like him, what happened?' Get back to it. . . . [Run] with no remorse. Be Kamikaze."

Whereas Barber is known for running like his pants are on fire, Maroney is known in New England for dancing too much, looking for the perfect hole that never comes. He was booed last week by the home crowd and hears the criticisms, but doesn't want to play too fast as a reaction to them.

"That's just as bad as dancing because I'm not really reading the play," Maroney said. "I'm trying to hit it fast and hard, so they can be like, 'Well, at least Maroney was running hard.' It really don't mean nothing if I ain't getting nowhere."

The Patriots will spread the ball around in the running game, giving Kevin Faulk most snaps on passing downs and giving Sammy Morris plenty of work. But Taylor's injury gives Maroney a chance to revive his career in New England before it fades away. By all accounts, the coaching staff still believes he can fulfill his early career promise.

Sunday's game is in Denver, which may be a good thing for Maroney, who might understand the Foxborough crowds a little too well.

"We have one of the roughest crowds, (they're) so judgmental, they want perfection," Maroney said.

"I feel like they really just want me to do good and I'm just not performing to the level that they expect of me. It was their way of saying, 'Mr. Maroney, now's the time we need you to be the running back everybody expected you to be.' 'OK, crowd, I hear you.' I'll try my best to answer."

LOL...true that!

you gotta know how to translate BB speak, 5 words: 'we will use all four.'

being a New England homer, i do not and have not owned a Patriot RB

for the last few years or so, i think the last was Dillon.

I dont' get all the fuss about which Patriot RB to play!

NONE of them are worth it in FF unless you're really desperate.

Well said. The only reason I grabbed Morris, is for a bye week filler. once I dont need him anymore he is on the pine.

i think the "fuss" is that the Pats have a pretty good offensive line and if they ever settled on 1 primary back that could be a very attractive play for FF'ers
