The Grey Pilgrim
From my perspective, it has become a sickening sight to watch some of the NFL players showboat during a game. Yesterday, Donnie Avery looked like an idiot in the end zone, when he made such a big deal over his touchdown with his team losing by 20 or 30 points. The Rams were getting smoked during the game. Like scoring a TD late in a blowout was a real accomplishment. How pathetic. Dre' Bly intercepts a pass, and has an opportunity to return the interception for a touchdown. But instead of running as fast as he can, he slows down and showboats and holds the ball in one hand, while his teammates are in desperate need of a touchdown to hopefully shift the momemtum of the game. As if it is more important to celebrate your individual accomplishment even before the play is over. There are 10 other players on your team that are often equally responsible for the success or the failure of every single play. Would Avery have scored a TD without his line blocking or the QB delivering the pass? Would Bly have intercepted the pass without his defensive line putting pressure on the opposing QB, and his other teammates covering their assignments? Of course not. The NFL is an exciting league, and I like the product. But unfortunately, these acts of "in your face" turn my stomach. But I'm old school when it comes to sportsmanship. I guess it's the world we live in, but I don't consider it an improvement. Victory for me comes when a player that is showboating before the play is even over, like Bly yesterday or DeSean Jackson last year, loses the ball and looks like an idiot to a national television audience. Unfortunately, often it is their team that suffers.

Big Score 1
Dre' Bly intercepts a pass, and has an opportunity to return the interception for a touchdown. But instead of running as fast as he can, he slows down and showboats and holds the ball in one hand.... let them have fun. Just as an FYI, (in case you missed it) Dre Bly's "fun" hurt his team. ROYALWITCHEESE
Just as an FYI, (in case you missed it) Dre Bly's "fun" hurt his team. 45-10 right? I doubt that was the deciding factor...

millerx
let them have fun. FWIW, I bet he would have had much more fun scoring a touchdown.
Dbaxx
Don't know if anyone saw it, but yesterday DRC intercepted Schaub for a pick 6. Daniels was chasing him down, but DRC was just too fast. He did however start high stepping from about the from about the 15 yard line - and proceeded to until about the 3 yard line when Daniels got close.. It is what it is, but I thought it was poor sportsmanship Priiiime Tiiiime...Prrrrriiiimmmeee Tiiiiiimmmmee....Ala Deion Sanders. I agree Shortsuff--not necessary, but with the game on the line like that and a HUGH play like that happens---pretty exciting! DRC has been getting crushed by Offenses all year, so I'm sure he was pumped.
mitpdub
45-10 right? I doubt that was the deciding factor... Nope, wouldn't have made a difference. The niners were flat and stunk it up on all phases of the game. Also, Roddy White was on Bly's tail and there's no way he outruns White. Balzac
Agreed - and I personally think that nothing shoves it in the other team's face more than when someone scores and just drops the ball and walks off the field like it's second nature . . . like they expect to score (what a revelation!). While I wish all this asinine celebration would just go away, I actually find it quite amusing when these idiots celebrate for no reason. They couldn't look like bigger jackasses when they do it and I'm happy to sit back and point and laugh.
Rebellab
Watching the Viks and Rams game with my buddies, we saw the celebration by Avery. I said the same thing, you are down by 20 points and you are celebrating. We talked about it a bit, and I brought up a game we all attended, we were near the endzone and Culpepper ran one in from about 4 yards out and just flipped the ball to the ref. The Viks were down by 20 or so in that game and it just made sense for him to do that. I understand a spike or something to show you are fired up, but a little dance etc looks stupid.
