Should you draft a player in the 1st simply because he slipped in the draft even if you dont like him?

I was not high on Matt Forte at all coming into the season. As a matter of fact I saw bust written all over him.

But I was in a 12 team league with the 7th pick and somehow he was still there.

That put me in a bind. I was basically forced to take a player i did not want out of principle.

And because of that decision I go from 6-0 to 2-4

This is not an advice question about a particular player.

The question is if you feel like someone is going to be a bust but they fall a lot further then all the cheet sheets say they should, should you take that person anyone on principle?

You answered your own question in sentence 3 - and you weren't forced, you went against your instincts.

No.

Sometimes it works in the other direction. It happened to me with Gore in the 2nd rd. Not that I dont like Gore he is just a guy I didnt have a feel for and never really had on my teams. He just looked like too good of value to pass on so i grabbed him. He played great before he got hurt. I expect nice things when he returns if he hopefully heals up properly

It all comes down to your own judgment. Whether it is based on the advice of others or not the final judgment is up to you. I check all the stats and listen to the advice of others but when it comes right down to it, it's my decision just as it is yours. If you win a league championship who do you give the credit to? Do you credit the Huddle? It's like when you were in college and if you got an "A" you said"I got an "A"! But if you got an "F" you said 'He gave me an "F"!

Always draft the player you want...I took Randy Moss at 2 in one draft. If you think they are going to be a bust don't draft that no matter the pick.

I made an expection for Maroney though this year he fell to the 15th round so I said what the heck I will take a shot at this guy even though I think he will be a bust.

I normally do what I feel and not let mock drafts tell me what to do unless it is a way beyond normal situation.

Forte was picked as high as #2 and no lower then #4 in almost every league.

I felt with the 7th pick it would be insane not to take him even though I did not like him.

It was almost like I had to take him even though I did not want him if that makes sense.

I hope I learn from this.

Better to reach for a player I like then to take someone who slips that I dont like

i have poopy instincts

with the 4th pick with AD, brees, and turner off the board…i take forte, cause my instincts tell me not to draft MJD

That's something to remember for next year, huh.

I passed on D Williams this past draft and took Ray Rice instead. I just didn't have a good feeling about Williams. Maybe I was reaching a little for Rice, but I really liked what I saw in preseason and was a believer - and needing a RB as well as knowing that he wouldn't be there when it came back to me, I took him. With that, I was getting heckled for a few weeks after - especially after McGahee was getting all the TD's the first few games..

Who's laughing now??

Was Forte above whoever you would have taken at 1.07 on your cheatsheet? If so, then you did the right thing. If not, then you dropped the ball. Simple as that. Even if you expect him to be taken early, you need to consider where you would take him before the draft. Otherwise you end up in a bind and need to make a decision on the spur of the moment. That's what you don't want to do during the draft.
