Well it's the second half of the season and now the games are exponetially getting bigger. I am curious as to what people believe are the biggest games that will have a biggest impact going forward.

I can see Philly in a must win and Atlanta. Dallas really needs to beat GB in order to keep control of the East as the Dec schedule is brutal. But I feel Philly is up against the wall this week because a lost will send them into a tail spin of desperate games. San Diego is in the same boat they need to catch Denver although I think Denver is starting to show weekness on Offense.

I love this time of year because each week the games get bigger and bigger.

I think it depends...

From a national point of view, the Pats-Colts game is probably going to get the most attention. Nobody really knows for sure what to think of these two teams. The Patriots are two years removed a near-perfect season, but missed the post-season last year. I think we're still trying to figure out if this team is closer to that team from 2007, and Brady is just "brushing the rust off", or if they're just another one of the half-dozen AFC teams that has a shot at doing something in the post-season, but not necessarily any better of a shot than the others. Meanwhile, the Colts are one of two undefeated teams in the league right now, but their wins, as a group, have been far from impressive. The combined record of the teams they have beat is a meager 27-39, and up until last week against Houston, they hadn't beaten a team with a winning record all season. So, I think this will definitely be Indy's toughest test to date, and should be a very good gauge in determining whether or not either of these two teams can be considered one of the "elite" teams in the AFC. Nothing that either one has done so far has proven that they are.

Pittsburgh-Cincinnati should be a great game that may very well determine who wins the division. And, there are going to be at least one or two solid AFC teams to not make the post-season this year... I don't believe the loser of this game is guaranteed a post-season berth. Nothing is guaranteed. But, on the other hand, both teams ARE currently 6-2, so a loss for either side would not be devastating, necessarily, which is why I voted for....

Philly-San Diego... Both teams 5-3 and a game back of first place. They have also both already lost to their respective division leaders, so in terms of head-to-head, they're really more than a game back. In other words, neither team can afford to slide to 5-4, and still expect to have a great shot at winning their division. Both still have to face Denver later in the season, as well as road trips to Dallas. Looking at their remaining schedules, though, I think the Eagles' is slightly more difficult than San Diego's. The Eagles still have road trips scheduled to Atlanta and NY (Giants), while SD's two toughest games on paper (besides Denver/Dallas) are probably the Bengals at home, and a road game at Tennessee. Plus, Philly is clearly in the more competitive division, top to bottom. So, what you have in this game is a must-win (or as close as you can get to one, for week 10) for the home team, and a game that the road team really does not want to lose. Should be a great game, with more at stake than any other game this week.

As for the other two games on the list...

ATL-CAR... Nothing interesting about this game at all, other than whether or not DeAngelo Williams is going to play, for fantasy purposes.

DAL-GB... This one COULD be a great game, but you never know. I've been disappointed more than once by the Pack this year, and I don't think there is any reason to believe that this week will be any different. You never know what you're going to get with Dallas, either, but they have played much better over the past month. Lots of fantasy players in this one as well, so I'll definitely keep an eye on it, but it's not even in the top three for "games of the week", in my opinion.

Pats-NE has the most sizzle but overall not that much impact - if NE loses their behind the curve for home field but that's about it.

Phi-SD is intriguing and also the loser ends up in a tough spot as far as their division goes.

Dal-GB...meh. GB is an also-ran this year, Dallas BETTER beat them.

Really, I think Pitt/Cinci is huge this week - a Cinci win gives them a nice 2-game cushion over the Steelers (1 game in the standing + tiebreaker) and the winner walks off at 7-2 and still in the race for homefield. Plus it should be a hard-hitting division game. Gotta love it.

I realized after my original post that the Philly game was in SD, not at home, but never bothered to edit. Either way, I think that was the game that neither team could afford to lose, and the Eagles are now on the outside, looking in, in terms of the playoffs... especially when I look at their schedule the rest of the way. Pittsburgh and New England are still in decent shape, and I expect both to make the playoffs, so their losses don't hurt their chances as much. I thought going into yesterday, and still think today, that the PHI-SD game was the biggest of the week.

As far as the BEST game, I would agree that last night's was pretty entertaining. I also think that, giiven how it ended, and the fact that BB basically sent a message to his defense (that he doesn't trust them to make a stop in the last two minutes), it COULD be more detrimental to them than Philly's loss. But, I'm not sure the Eagles expected to win yesterday, and I'm also not sure that they expect to make the playoffs. Without Westbrook, they're awfully young on offense, especially the play-makers... Unfortunately for McNabb and some of the other veterans, I think this could mean them missing the post-season.
