Ziachild007
Brown ready With Steve Slaton nursing a shoulder injury, Chris Brown could start against the Colts and get the most carries as he did Monday night against the Titans. “They haven't said anything to me,” said Brown, who had 11 carries for 36 yards against Tennessee. “I prepare every week and practice hard and whatever happens, happens. “I knew I was going to play a decent amount. I wasn't sure how much. It depends on how the game was going to unfold, and we went from there. When they throw you in, you have to execute.”

giantsfan
I'm sure he will. And it makes sense considering Kubiak is a bad coach. Let's play our worst RB the most. I get it. Slaton is fine, just rested yesterday due to the short week, but even if he starts doesn't matter. He started Monday night and Brown got the most carries. Sure it would go down like that again. Kubiak sees some good things in Brown...

giantsfan
Why are you happy? You mean as a Colts fan you don't think Brown in the backfield is a threat? Are you crazy? Kubiak loves the guy so he can't be wrong... .
i_am_the_swammi
he started last week....why would it be remotely surprising for him to start this week, too, especially since Kubiak said that, with Brown in there, the team plays better up front, blitzes are picked up with better results, Brown runs hard, etc? Chadman
This revelation would be about the only reason I would consider starting Slayton at this point. Once I get official word Brown is starting, then I'll really have to think about Slayton as an option...

Funny thing about that - Brown almost got Schaub killed missing a blitz last week while Slaton then came in and seemed to block fine. Brown is just not a a very good football player - period. The whole thing is maddening.
Ziachild007
start being the relative term it is, how much do you see this being split? I think Slaton will have more touches this week. I'd say 60-30-10 Slaton, Brown Moats. he started last week....why would it be remotely surprising for him to start this week, too, especially since Kubiak said that, with Brown in there, the team plays better up front, blitzes are picked up with better results, Brown runs hard, etc? Because last week Kubes said Slaton had regained his starting job........then Brown got the nod.

He gone this year if they miss the playoffs? 2. The RB situation. Seems to most of us that Brown is clearly the worst option. Your thoughts as a fan of the team? I don't think so, at least I hope not. I like Kubiak and I think McNairdoes too. I think he gets at least 1 more year, especially if they finish strong this year. 2. I think Slaton gives them the best chance to win, but Moats does a serviceable job when called upon. I am not a Chris Brown fan my any means, but I wouldn't mind seeing them get a true power ack to go with SS, even if it makes it a true RBBC next year. The problem is like Denver for so many years Kubiak thinks any RB can succeed in their system.

No issue with getting a power RB to go with Slaton next year, BUT for right now playing Brown is NOT the way to go. Seems like you agree. And that Slaton gives them the best chance right now based on the team this year. Seems like you agree again. I also agree, as you see from above, if you don't trust Slaton anymore play Moats not Brown. I may be "biased" for Slaton, but I am NOT biased in my assessment of Brown. He is terrible and everyone knows it. Good info Z.
Ursa Majoris
1. Kubiak as a HC in general? He gone this year if they miss the playoffs? If I may chip in, the Texans are two missed field goals away from taking both Indy and the Titans to OT, where anything can happen. IMO, there's a lot of coaches that will be hitting the door marked EXIT before Kubiak - or there should be.

If they can finish better then .500 I think he definitely keeps the job. If he finishes under .500, he's out. If he finishes .500, there's a .500/.500 chance he sticks around. giantsfan
How many years of not making the playoffs do you get though? Especially considering they had high hopes in Houston this season. Missed FG's or not, you are what your record says you are. I guess this Brown thing has me questioning Kubiak. How is it that we all KNOW he is awful yet Kubiak plays him AND says things like I like the way our O looked with Chris in there. Does he watch the same O we watch? There was no threat with Brown in. Maybe I am basing too much on the fact that he is playing Brown over Slaton and Moats though. Maybe I am making too big a judgement based on that if you will. Just can'thelp but thinking he is clueless when I see Brown run the ball 10 + times. Edited November 27, 2009 by giantsfan
wolfer
1) make no mistake, with cowher, Skeletor, Holmgren, etc all coming back in some form in 2010, Kubiak needs a winning record on his resume. Sure the games have been close. Good teams win the close games. This reminds me a bit of when Mike Riley was HC in San Diego. Nicest guy in the World, players loved him, but they couldn't win a close game. Fired. 2) I think the Texans search for a bruising back in the 2010 draft. I can see the Houston backfield become a Hightower-Wells type of gig. We can talk fumbles all day, but lets not forget Slaton's 3.2 YPC this year. I know they lost 2 starting guards but that is anemic. Chris Brown anemic. 3) Matt Schaub, this guy is the real deal. Incredibly accurate and poised. But without a running game or 'big play' threat out of the backfield, and no Daniels as a safety net, this team is becoming predictable. Blanket AJ and watch Houston score 17. Slaton gives Houston another home run hitter. He's torched Indy in the past. Will Kubiak finally give this guy a chance?

Exactly....I can not stan the fans that are still clamoring, "We should have taken Vince Young." I said it then and I still stick by it, Mario Williams is more of an impact player than Vince would be if he were there.

CaptainHook
Slaton got the start, but Brown is seeing some carries. Slaton definitely getting more work than he did last week. At the half, they each have 8 carries. The Colts D is acting like they've never seen play action before. Gonna need another comeback . . .
