keggerz
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Delhom...n-the-hook.html this is just a tidbit from the article but the entire article is worth reading. With the extension – completed a few days before the 2009 NFL Draft – the Panthers picked up approximately $3 million of cap room, enough to pay their draft class. They were bumping up against the cap – and had done a few other cap restructures -- after placing a $16.7-million franchise tag on Julius Peppers. The Champ is Here
If Delhomme was a baseball player , he would definitely be on the NY Mets Roster Until placed on PUP list.
Big John
Until placed on PUP list. Baseball has the DL list, but not a PUP.
jetsfan
Baseball has the DL list, but not a PUP. I do believe Delhomme is Physically Unable to Perform the job of an NFL QB.
STL Fan
I do believe Delhomme is Physically Unable to Perform the job of an NFL QB. It's amazing that a guy who was the QB of a Super Bowl team can fall that far. We're seeing something similar here with Bulger, though he was a backup for the Super Bowl, not the starter. wolfer
Yes, they made room to pay for the 2009 draft class. Too bad that class didn't include a QB to replace Delhomme one day. And if you think that was bad, wait until you see the 2010 Panthers slap another Franchise tag on Peppers for a cool $20 million for one year. 20 freaking million. There's your baseball money. I guess this is what an uncapped year will look like in Panther-land. But surely someone has to take responsibility for signing a game-manager on a run-first team to all that guaranteed money? Swampnuts
If it were not for Peppers holding the team hostage, there is NO way the Panthers would have extended Jake. They were forced to either franchise Peppers or let him go without compensation, and they couldn't bring themselves to do it. You'd better believe they let him walk this year, because they won't do it again. I believe they need to trade Jonathan Stewart for a first rounder if they could get one. That would get them back into the first round for a shot at a QB.
