The 13ers
In my work league of 12 teams, 3 divisions, 4 teams make the playoffs in a 14 week season. The 3 divisional winners and one wildcard (the team with the highest point total to NOT win the division). For some reason, the league comissioner set it up so that every team plays one divisional team 3 times, the other two divisional teams 2 times, and every other league team once. Doing the math, every team in the league does not play one team in the league. The biggest problem is that I am tied record-wise with a divional team that I played 3 times. He beat me twice. The only way i can make the playoffs is to win this week and him lose. I have a MUCH higher season total of points than him, but won't win the wild card. I just don't think it's fair that the tie breaker is based on head-to-head. I had crucial players with bye weeks when I played this team i am tied with. He did not. I could see if I played all divisional teams twice: then at least head-to-head would make a little more sense, but still with the bye week thing it's still messed up. Thoughts? Big John
There is nothing you can do now for this year. Rules are spelled out this way. But for next year, try to get the schedule set so each divisional team is played twice and everyelse once. Then it you don't like H2H as the first tiebreaker, try to get tiebreaker rules changed. detlef
Thanks. I can't believe this issue never came up before, or was never raised. That' exactly what I was going to say. How is it that nobody said boo when you realized that you were playing one team 3 times at the expense of playing at least once against every other team in the league? More importantly, this isn't something that you just stumble into. What was the person thinking when they set it up this way?
Savage Beatings
In UFF-DA we are just figuring out that we need to revise our tie-breaker rules for next season. As it is, Ursa kinda got jobbed out of the playoffs, but he's been pretty decent about it since those are the rules that we all agreed to abide by. We'll almost certainly vote to change things up this off-season,. So I understand your frustration, but now is not the time to complain about the rules. Lead the charge to change it once your season is done.
Bier Meister
while i don't like the set up of reg season play, i see nothing wrong with intra-divisional tie-breakers starting with h2h...so long as only teams fighting for the wc are in the same div. if 3 or more are fighting for it, h2h that does not result in an "ugly triangle" is fine as well. ie: if 1 team is undefeated vs the other 2 they advance; if 1 team hasn't won against the other two, that team is bumped and the other two start from the begining. electricrelish
I don't like the setup either. Another thing to change is when you play your divisional rivals, which should be at the start of the season and at the end of the season to avoid the byes all together.
