CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officials confirm that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was injured in a car accident Wednesday in Charlotte.

It happened just before noon on Oakdale Road.

Police say when officers arrived they found Henry lying in the road. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the incident started as a domestic situation on Peachtree Road. Officers say Henry's fiance got into a pickup truck and drove away from the home. As she was driving away, police say Henry apparently jumped into the bed of the truck. At some point, Henry fell out of the truck.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating.

The 26-year-old Henry, No. 15 on the Bengals, is a five-year veteran and one of the team's top receivers.

Sounds like he was thrown from the bed of a pickup.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry has been involved in a car accident, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officials.

Police declined to describe the extent of his injuries, but a team release said they were "very serious."

Preliminary reports indicate Henry may have also suffered severe head injuries and sources told the KY Post Henry was in North Carolina with his fiancee.

TMZ is currently reporting Henry was involved in a domestic dispute with her and that he hopped into the bed of a pick-up truck as she tried to leave.

Henry is currently on injured reserve with a dislocated forearm.

The 26-year-old is in his fifth year in the league.

CBS Sports has on there page that he is being reported as dead.

ESPN news now says he is listed in serious condition.

If CBS did this, this is another example of the sad state of journalism today. Making a mistake about whether somebody is dead or alive is inexcusable. Sad, very, very sad.
