Favorite Huddle Fantasy Football Posts of the 2009 FF season

 

It's near the end of the year, which means it's time for lists. Instead of listing my favorite 2009 albums or movies, I've decided to take a different route. Ever since I discovered the View New Posts link, I find myself reading fantasy football league's posts that I am not a member of. Why? Maybe because everyone for the most part gets along in my leagues, which is so boring. I enjoy reading about league conflicts. Obviously, I have not read every single post, but I thought I would share my top 7 posts from the 2009 season before everyone disappears for the holidays.

OK, I'm cheating as I put two posts for #7. These two posts are a reaction to a trade by a new league member who swapped Tom Brady & Chad Ochocinco for Brett Favre and Calvin Johnson + $8 in a dynasty league. These first two posts aren't that special, but they setup #6 nicely. When I read these posts, I feel like a sociologist. I can't help but marvel at the passion everyone has for fantasy football.

This post is a response from JamesM.Gubas, the guy who traded Brady and Ochocinco for Favre and C. Johnson. He presents a very interesting analysis or "lesson" as he puts it of Tom Brady. I love the arrogance of the poster.

This post is after JamesM.Gubas wins his first playoff game. He raves about his playoff win and "fantasy savy", and calls out his defeated opponent and critic, xostars, who questioned Gubas' fantasy knowledge after making the trade. Gubas makes it known that this issue is personal in this very public post.

This post introduced me to the persona Shadow. Probably the most interesting poster, who often refers to himself in the third person. Here is his response to someone editing a posted bid for a player.

OK, same thread, same character Shadow. Here is a response of his where he gives some advice to the new members of the leagues. Shotgun Messiahs' response is priceless. Read the next post after that, and you see that Shadow either misinterprets the sarcasm or is being sarcastic himself. Love the back and forth here.

Just as I was getting to love Shadow, he ends up resigning from the league, but then retracting. However, the commisioner accepts the inital resignation and will not allow him to withdraw it. Again, more third person references to himself. Lots of talk about Purgatory, etc. Fascinating.

By now, you've figured out that I am fascinated by Shadow. This post is the very last post from Shadow. Will we ever see someone of his stature again?

I'm not usually one to toot my own horn but since I have nothing going on for myself, in fantasy or real life, I thought I'd strive for some sort of achievement.

I had the 9th overall pick in a 12 man PPR league. Took Dre J in 1st round, SteJack in 2nd round, Chad Ocho in the 3rd, Addai in the 4th.
