AZ/Green Bay...San Diego too

I know last year the Cardinals played their starters in a meaningless week 17 game and it carried them to the Super Bowl, anyone know if that will be the case again this year? Any word yet out of AZ? Same goes for Green Bay & San Diego. I know Norv is definitely in favor of resting his starters, so I'll assume they will sit. I have no idea how GB will handle week 17? Any info on any of these 3 teams would be much appreciated. Thanks!

An article in the San Diego Union-Tribune today quotes Norv as saying he will play his healthy starters enough to "keep them sharp". The unhealthy ones (Merriman, Eric Weddle, etc.) may not play at all.

The coaches...not sure they can be trusted. Last year Arizona got hammered by NE in week 16 so Arizona wanted to get that winning feeling back in week 17 and Warner threw 4 TD's and Fitz caught 2 if my memory serves me.

NO said they will try to win their game because of losing 2 straight.

SD is a wierd situation...they won 10 in a row do they want to stay hot ? Coach says so but who knows

NE is another quagmire.

I just wish the coaches would tell us we are playing the normal starters or we are not.

I just don't want to start Rivers, Warner or Brady (which are my 3 normal QBs in my 3 leagues that play this week)

and then have all 3 sit after 1 or 2 quarters.

Tell me now they are playing 1 quarter or tell me now they are playing to win the game...that is all I ask.

I have big troubles

I have the following players in my 3 leagues

Warner (other option is Flacco or Alex Smith)

Rivers (other option is Palmer or Garrard)

Brady (other option is Favre)

Wells (other option is S-Jackson)

P-Thomas x 2

M-Bell x 2

R-Moss x 3 (please lord play no other option)

Welker

V-Jackson x 2

Gates x 2

Boldin x 2

Quite the little quagmire I am in here

Schottenheimer said the same thing in 2004. Then he sat the starters, including LT, and cost me my championship. Just sayin'.

P.S. We moved our SB to week 16 the following year.

The Cards have a chance at the 2 seed if the Vikings lose. If the Vikes win I think the studs will sit most of the game and the Pac and Cards run the ball and play very vanilla since they may play each other the following week. The Saints will play into the half then sit also, San Diego will sit also.

I don't trust these coaches who have nothing to play for.

I am going to GUESS the following happens with the Chargers this week based on what I have read and who I have talked to.

They will treat their starters like a second-to-last, pre-season game. Rivers and company will play well enough to establish a rhythm, move the ball and score some points. If they score on their first two possessions, they could be done. If the Skins D is game and makes it a contest, then they could carry on into the second frame until they get done what they need to do. I don't see them going any further than the first possession of the second half no matter what happens. If you think a half of production will get you what you need, have at it.

The defense is REALLY dinged up and I expect to see a bunch of guys sit/inactive for this game. It is amazing how "well" this group has played this year despite all of the injury problems they have had. Given this, there have been an awful lot of 2s that have played a lot this year and played well, gaining valuable experience and making the depth more reliable. I would not consider this a gimme game for the Skins offense to put up more than they usually do since this unit's depth is well tested and has proven itself worthy. TE and slot production may be worth a hard look in PPR leagues considering the Chargers history with these positions and a D strategy that will probably open things up underneath.

There will be a lot of "vanilla" going on both sides of the ball, so don't expect to see a lot of looks or creativity in the game plan on either side of the ball. They will play it close to the vest and are already working on some different things for the play-offs.

I see the Bolts doing their best to shorten the game as much as possible. At some point, look for the offense to give the Skins a heavy dose of Tolbert and Hester to drain the clock. The D will probably go into a shell D (semi-prevent) and try to keep everything in front of them and between the stripes to keep the clock moving when the Skins have the rock. This game can not end too quickly for the Chargers!

Week 17 Superbowls in FF are wee-todd-id :D

Aside from maybe some IDP players, you really dont want to mess with any of the starters in the Packers/Cards game.

Clearly the same has to be said for your Bengals, Chargers and Saints.

IMO, its pretty bush league of the NFL to move the Jets/Bengals game to 8 PM (why not Eagles/Cowboys?) because of the unfair advantadge it clearly gives to both teams knowing their collective fates will be decided. The Pats are a bit of a question mark though. Belicheck historically doesnt sit starters, but I'd be shocked to see Brady, Moss, etc. in there late in the second half regardless of the score.

I'm pretty indifferent to the pros and cons of a Wk 17 title game, but its pretty crazy that guys like Larry Johnson, Mike Bell and Mike Tolbert will be deciding ALOT of FF championships!

Dead on here!

If the G-Men can nut up, play for some pride and somehow beat the Vikes, the Cards will be playing to win, with one-eye on the ticker checking the Cowboys/Eagles game. If the Vikes win, hot-tub Matty will find his way into this game by halftime.
