Henry Muto
I remember a year or two ago the NFL had a rule up for vote that went something like this. The 2 teams that play vs each other the team with the best record would get the home game regardless of seed. So if the wild card team was 11-5 and the division winner was 10-6 the 11-5 team would host the game. This would be huge as most teams would not be able to rest players if they want to keep games competitve they should have did this. It would be so huge teams like Arizona, New England, Green Bay, ect would still be trying. Indy, SD and NO would not be but at least more teams would have to finish out the season trying. cdrudge
It's only an issue if the team is a wildcard...and it's their own fault for not winning their division. Teams don't chose the division that they play in or their schedule so sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

It could add a few more great games at the end of a season. The swing of playing in GB vs. AZ would be HUGH.

It won't solve all the competitive issues (i.e. the quittin' Colts), but it's a good start.

detlef
This isn't a post about your fantasy team? Oh, it is. My guess is that one of the 37 leagues he's in is still active week 17 and he's pissed that dudes on his team are in meaningless games. Well, that and the fact that this rule might also make a few week 16 games matter more.
heydave76
I don't like it. One of the reasons a wild card has a better record than a division winner can often be because the division they are in is playing an easier schedule than the other divisions. If you win the division, you are beating teams that are playing almost the exact schedule as you. I think you should get home field if you win the division. You could also have a great wild card team with a super duper division champ. Or a crap division winner because the entire division is garbage. Works both ways. All I'm looking for is some more kick #$% games the last week that have a playoff feel. Edited January 2, 2010 by kcmast

Not much point bothering with divisions at all otherwise.
