Round 3: Eagles vs. Cowboys...

Not sure what to make of this game but would like to hear some reasoning as to why either team will win or lose...

Dallas looks to be peaking at a good time but that generally gets rectified in the playoffs...

Philly has lost to all 3 of the playoff teams they've faced this year...they've only beaten 1 team with a winning record (Atlanta 9-7) all season long.

Dallas offense had 291 yards of total offense in the 1st half of last week's game...Philly offense had 221 total for the entire game.

Philly WRs dropped some balls they should have caught and I have to believe they turn that around this game, although with the pressure McNabb was facing a lot of his passes were over/under thrown.

Dallas defensive schemes will probably stay about the same as it was very effective in the last game...but Philly will definitely be working to counteract those.

Philly desperately needs a running game as 10 rushes for 27 yards is pretty pathetic.

Dallas secondary need to contain Jackson and Maclin over-the-top again, and keep Celek underneath.

Philly o-line gets beaten more than a red-headed step child...hope they've found a center by this Saturday evening.

Well. Now I have nothing to say in my game breakdown. I think I will just cut and paste this.

Thanks...but I failed to mention anything about not blitzing Romo seems like a sure-fire way to get routed...or that Westbrook might want a 3rd or 4th opinion on whether he should be playing or not, although McCoy's pass blocking skills, or total lack thereof, is going to mean another long day for McNabb...

Did I mention that out of the 19 times teams have played each other 3 times in the same season with 1 of those teams winning the earlier 2 games, that 12 of those times that team also won the 3rd game

I think what you posted above is the key to how this game plays out. Dallas's secondary can be chewed up if Mcnabb gets hot and the receivers show up.

Celek was very impressive. One thing to note is Jackson and Celek looked very gimpy at the end of that game on Sunday. Jackson wasnt himself the 2nd half and neither was celek. You wonder if they will be 100 %. Dallas has to stop that stupid Fin offsides too. 2nd and long and 3rd and long because of that false start is tough to overcome on a consistent basis.

Oh and lets hope it doesnt come down to a FG. Akers is as money as they come and Suisham shanked a 30 yarder last week. I like Dallas to win this but I dont see it being anywhere near as easy as last week. If we could only get some kind of production out of Roy Williams we would really be difficult to account for on O.

This stat means as much as:

1. Wade Philips has never won a playoff game (0-4)

2. Andy Reid has never lost a first-round playoff game (7-0)

3. Donovan Mcnabb has never lost a first-round playoff game (5-0).

4. The Eagles have not lost two games in a row in Dallas since 1998-1999.

:D

And Whomp, the only reason Celek disappeared in the 2nd half was that he was kept in to help pass protect on most of the passing plays, as McNabb was under bigtime pressure. They went with 3 WR routes.....same thing happened in the Broncos game.

I have a feeling we see a ton of Leonard Weaver on the field in pass protection mode. McCoy will only play in obvious rushing downs, and Westbrook in obvious passing situations. Anything else, its Weaver.

Westbrook just doesn't look the same since the concussions and the holes the Eagles o-line are opening up seem to let in more of the defense then let out any rushing attack. McCoy can't pass protect and Weaver is more of a short-yardage specialist. Dallas is stacking the line and blitzing more without a running game to worry about...

Exactly. a sheet of stats are as good as toilet paper once the game starts.

Leonard Weaver needs to be in a whole lot more this game as he offers the best pass blocking as well as running/catching the ball out of the backfield...

Westbrook can't be considered the same player he was and McCoy is just not impressive....

I really wish they would run more 2TE sets with Weaver out there....they need to keep the Dallas offense off the field and hope they don't get into any sort of rhythm because Austin/Crayton seemed almost uncoverable at times last week...

oh...and the Eagles WR's ned to actually catch the ball this week.......seriously...

This game will be closer but honestly would be shocked to see Philly win. I just think Dallas matches up with the Eagles very well. If the Eagles can rectify things and hit on all cylinders, they could make this a very tight game. Otherwise, the Cowboys should win by at least a TD.

I didnt say Celek dissapeared because of anything special that Dallas did against him. I said he seemed injured . The announcers were saying the same thing. He would go in a play..Grimace.. then come out looking frustrated on the sidelines

I have hope for the 1st paragraph and none for the second. The Defense will stop McNabb and the run again. I just can't see the Eagles O-Line containing the Cowboys front 7.

For this game to have a different result, the Eagles need to do a much better job in pass protection and get more big plays out of their kick and punt teams. They should have an advantage on special teams in all facets, and on any given Sunday, that could be enough.

The Eagles team that showed up in Dallas last Sunday won't be there this Saturday. One of the Eagles problems is they can be a little schizoid. Sometimes a completely different team shows up.

I am expecting a tight game Saturday, 3 point difference, 17-14, Dallas

The blitzing is what kind of stood out to me, Romo seemed to have quite a bit of time, especially the first half. I would have thought the Eagles would have blitzed more and try to rattle Romo's cage. At one point I thought the Eagles were laying off but they certainly had a reason to win the game.

Also makes me wonder how much did Dallas show vs what Philly showed for setting up a game plan for this coming weekend.

I agree with JoJo, I think the Eagles was definitely off last weekend and they will right the ship this week and it will be a close game.

Philly's defensive coordinator stated they held back the blitzing to try and stop Dallas's rushing attack...

Since that theory didn't work out so well I have to think they go back to their regular blitzing schemes this coming weekend.
