Warner to retire?

Arizona's next loss could mark the last time that quarterback Kurt Warner plays in an NFL game.

He always could change his mind, but this likely will be the 38-year-old Warner's final NFL season, according to sources close to the quarterback.

Warner has been voted to five Pro Bowls, won two NFL MVP awards, one Super Bowl and became the second quarterback in history to throw more than 100 touchdown passes for two NFL franchises.

Earlier this season, Warner suffered a concussion that raised questions about his future.

I saw that article myself this morning & started thinking a bit about the possible FF impact of a "no Warner" and "no Boldin" (assuming the latter gets traded away in the off season) ARZ team.

- Fitz suffers (Leinart throwing plus more 2x/3x coverage w/o Boldin around?)

- Breaston (& maybe Urban/Doucet) stock goes up by default

- Wells stock goes up

- Will ARZ actually start to use the TE (whomever it is next year) for something other than an extra blocker?

Dynasty owners of Fitz must be unhappy about the possibility.

Cue the inevitable HOF discussions

He's surely in. Discussions over.

What he lacks in volume, he makes up in quality.

3 SB starts - EVERY eligible QB who has started 3 SBs is in the HoF - Griese and Aikman weren't as good as Warner is, Brady is not yet eligible but is a lock unless he's caught with a dead girl or a live boy.

2 MVPs - and he could have easily had a 3rd last season. EVERY eligible multiple MVP winner is in the Hall. Manning and Favre are locks.

8-3 playoff record - not about to do the research on THIS one, but even a one-and-done leaves him with a healthy .667 win pct in the playoffs.

I think he's pretty much a slam-dunk.

I think Whiz is a good enough coach to realize that when you have a big gun, you shoot it. No Warner/No Boldin means Fitz downgrades a smidge - I think he's a good enough player where he gets his no matter what - but I think the Cards go smashmouth to take the pressure of Leinart.

I don't know that they abandon the Wells/Hightower tandem, though. Both increase in value but neither becomes the bell-cow.

Dreamer.

PS I agree, just tired of any player who was any good this topic always comes up, and often for players who have no business being considered. Frankly I wish the whole HOF thing was eliminated.

Brady is not yet eligible but is a lock unless he's caught with a dead girl or a live boy.

In this day and age that wouldn't matter. He could get busted for raping a nun and people would yawn and he'd get in first vote. Hell Ray Lewis covered up murders and he'll be a first ballot lock. :vomit: Stuff like this is one of the reasons I can't stand the whole HOF thing.

Anyway back to AZ - Fitz takes more than a slight downturn IMO. Wouldn't touch him for squat next year if Warner retires.

I can buy that thinking to a degree, but off the top of my head, where I see Fitz maybe taking the biggest productivity hit is in TDs ... I've seen little evidence that Leinart can reliably throw the EZ fade pattern that Warner & Fitz seem to like for example, although I have no true idea as to how many of Fitz's scores in the past couple of seasons have come on that kind of play - seems like more than just a couple however.

Obviously Leinart is a lesser QB. But with Boldin gone, there's no more 1/1A status in Arizona, Fitz is the man. But Breaston/Doucet are good enough to keep defenses from focusing solely on Fitz - or at least to do so at their peril.

Will TE Stephen Spach prosper from this?
