Bier Meister
a very good friend of mine came to denver on sunday for business. i drove down and stayed with him. hit a place called vesta dipping grill. vodka shots when we sat down. he then went to gin and tonics and i went with wine. started with their spanish jalapeno tuna (was a nice tartar)- verdicchio. then split their 3 pepper flatiron and and tenderloin- margeaux. everything was good but the flatiron was a little busy with their flavors. after dinner we went to falling rock (a place we meet a lot of visiting huddlers)...i introduced him to st bernardus and maredsous. then hit the sports column (sports bar) and did shots til close. monday i drove home to spend "valentine's day" with my wife. we don't wrapped up in artificial hollidays, but my friend's restaurant hosted a winemaker's dinner.... jordan. trio of seafood tartar: himachi ceviche, mediteranean ahi, asian salmon paired with an 07 chard.... they are making a move to a more burgundian style and are using their grapes from the russian river vs alexander valley to get more mineral. lamb with teriyaki, pineapple reduction with confit spring roll with an 02 cab. shortrib with lobster risotto with an 01 cab (darker cherry, chocolate, leather), and 05 cab (current, balckberry, cherry, vanilla)... the 01 was excellent hazelnut tiramisu with their riviere russe (very nice sauternes style dessert wine) and today we had a master somm come in to the hotel to taste bordeaux.
