Uncapped year

has anybody heard of their team planning to or do they expect their team to... toss around a lot of guaranteed money this year?

What is to keep a team from getting all signing bonus' paid off this year to free up money for other years - perhaps even renegotiate players' contracts to get this done.

Is it just a restriction of money they have on hand - because a small investment now - to put together some crazy pieces in the next couple years could end up drawing a team a boatload of revenue.

I fully expect Dallas and Washington to attempt to buy a championship as soon as they can. Both owners have deep pockets and are willing to spend anything for the trophy. I don't doubt that the idea may seem appealing but realistically, there's no way that the small market teams can compete against them.

BTW, I think this could be the things that starts to ruin the NFL if it isn't addressed. Baseball is the shining example of what happens when the playing field isn't level. Pittsburgh (for example) will never be able to compete for a championship if they don't get exceptionally lucky and their farm system spews forth several championship caliber players over a 2-3 year span and everyone sticks around long enough to make a go of it. I really don't want to see the NFL go this way but it is largely due to certain owners more concerned with making profits individually than as a league.

I don't agree but I think it does'nt matter either way. I don't pretend to understand the rules like, say Big John does, but I believe since Dallas advanced a round in the playoffs they can only sign 1 FA. Or maybe 1 for every 1 they lose?

BTW, I read a rumor that NYG are going to offer Peppers a ton of dough. ( I think you are a NYG fan, if not forgive me). If the rumor I read is true, Dallas and Washington will not spend as much i this offseason as NYG. Again, it is only a rumor.

I hadn't heard the Peppers rumor, interesting. I didn't mean to imply that Dallas and Wash were the only teams with deep pockets, only two that I immediately thought of. Living in the Snyderland as I do I immediately assume Snyder start dropping hugh contracts all around and well, Jerry's track record speaks for itself. BTW, that's not necessarily a knock on either of the, It shows they are committed to winning and are willing to spend the money to do it.

Also, my understanding of the rules could be way off base as well. I just think that with the playing field uneven and uncapped, there's trouble a brewin.

PFT reports that Peppers was offered a long term deal from Carolina for $14 Mil a year and he's walking away from it...

He either thinks he can get more money, or wants to actually go somewhere to win like New England or Philly.

Jerry, Snyder and Al Davis are going to shell out some serious cash in the next 7 days.
