fpuma
profootballtalk has said it already happened.... stupid, if true... How so? I think its a great trade. From Rotoworld Browns, Eagles complete blockbuster trade Browns acquired CB Sheldon Brown and LB Chris Gocong from the Eagles in exchange for LB Alex Hall, a fourth-round pick, and a fifth-round pick. The 31-year-old Brown, still playing at a high level, went on the trading block with the Eagles unwilling to sign him to a long-term deal. He'll receive a new contract and move into the Browns starting lineup opposite Eric Wright, eliminating the need for a corner at No. 7 overall. Gocong, a better fit in the 3-4 defense, could start opposite Matt Roth on the outside. The Browns did well to plug two defensive holes for a pair of mid-round picks. Avernus
Re-building yeah it appears the McNabb trade is even more imminent with a stronger push to the youth side of the ball... the one question that remains is if Eagles are able to do the Raiders trade that involves Asante and Asomough...? I sure hope so..
keggerz
eagles weren't happy with gocong (lost his starting job last year to foiku(sp) )....Hall should play SLB and he could also be used to rush the QB (hand on the ground)...so he adds what hopefully will be some depth and flexibility and those draft picks now give the birds 10 total picks in the draft....look for them to be very active during the draft. I sure hope so.. the eagles had one of the youngest teams in the NFL last year (2nd youngest I think)....they are not rebuilding...they are preparing for the draft and added depth and versatility to their team while moving a SLB that had fallen from favor....I still don't see McNabb being moved

keggerz
Yeah, I know... It was just easier to say I didn't get it out of frustration. please explain how this is rebuilding? Brown is getting up there in age and wants a long term extension.... we have a history of not doing that...surely that doesn't equate to rebuilding

McNabb is in the final year of his contract - whenever the Eagles want you around, they usually have you locked up heading into the final year of your deal... 4. they are clearly aiming to trade McNabb soon - I say day 2 of the draft if said team drafts late in the 1st or early in the 2nd... Brown is getting up there in age and wants a long term extension....we have a history of not doing that...surely that doesn't equate to rebuilding this would include McNabb.... Brown, Westbrook, McNabb, Gocong all moved in one offseason? that's quite a move towards re-building and you're right - "we have a history of not doing that" they are doing what they do - it just happens to be that the magnitude of it will equate to re-building...but I actually expect it to be a smooth transition... it's not re-building like how the Rams need re-building...but they are re-building the core of the team.. i_am_the_swammi
rebuilding? This a soild deal for both teams. Gocong? who cares. Brown? he was toasted royally in single-coverage situations too any times to count this year, and was wanting a long-term extension from a team that didn't want him last year. When the Eagles re-signed Hobbs this past week, the writing was clearly on the wall. Aquiring a stockpile of picks to package is smart....and Hall was mis-used last year as a rush 3-4 LB. He will compete for the starting strong side B job, and at 6'5", 250, has plenty of size to get it done.

That is what appears to be happening here, imo. I just don't know who we are and I am trying to have faith that the front office is making moves that better the product on the field. I would not, however, expect that to translate to wins immediately. I'm not turning in my card I'm just tempering my expectations. Azazello1313
yeah, I don't see how this means "rebuilding". eagles are pretty aggressive doing this every year for as long as I can remember, sloughing off some of the older players they feel are overpaid. don't see how it reflects one way or another on what they will end up doing at QB (and I still think, personally, they'd be dumb to trade mcnabb, and I kind of doubt they will)

Scourge
The Eagles were not going to sign Brown to a long term contract and Gocong would be more valuable in a 3-4. There were rumblings of the Eagles cutting Brown. That is how unhappy Brown was with the situation. it is a good trade for both teams. This draft is deep and with a ton of picks, they can packae them and address 3 or 4 true needs in the draft. All that said, the trading of McNabb is imminent. If they get Aso from Oakland in a trade with them, they will have essentially made their team on of the youngest teams in the NFL with only a few players over 30. They know they need to fill holes and set-up for the future. I think "rebuilding" is not a word you can use with this organization because they have a nice core of young talented players. They will continue to compete. it will all come down with how Kolb produces once McNabb is traded. -Scourge
ebartender
In the last 2-3 years the Eagles have lost/traded/cut the following key players: Runyan Tra Thomas Dawkins Westbrook Lito Sheppard Sheldon Brown Shawn Andrews McNabb? That is possibly 8 pro-bowl players and leaders of the team (assuming McNabb is traded or not extended). If that is not re-building then I don't know what is. I mean the Eagles have some nice young players in DeSean Jackson, Maclin, McCoy, Bradley, Celek, and Cole but this is a new era of Eagles football we are looking at. I am not saying they will be a 1-15, 2-14, or 3-13 type team but they are making a complete overhaul of their roster. The Eagles are dumping salary like it is their job (Darren Howard, Kevin Curtin, Shawn Andrews). I'm not saying I disagree with the moves they made, but to me this is the definition of re-building. The Eagles just have a few of the pieces in place.

Especially on their desire to pick up more draft picks . . . althought it seems with how successful the Eagles ahve been it might be reloading instead of rebuilding . . . . Especially on their desire to pick up more draft picks . . . althought it seems with how successful the Eagles ahve been it might be reloading instead of rebuilding . . . . Look at the last two games the Eagles played, we were blown away by a much younger Dallas team. We lost three times to them last year. If we don't do something along the lines of "reloading" we will not make it past the Cowboys. The players listed in the earlier posts have contributed to some great Eagle teams over the years and thier attempts to come home with the ring have come up short. Great teams that didn't quite get it done...............Lets move on......................

I wan't the re-build to happen because I think we'll be about 8-8 this year and then start a new strong push the following year.... it just depends on how Kolb will adjust to opposing defenses that catch on to his tendencies...
