HowboutthemCowboys
So much for Good Friday – at least not for two veterans. Offensive tackle Flozell Adams and safety Ken Hamlin have played their last games with the Cowboys, who officially released both veterans Friday morning. Adams, the longest tenured player for the Cowboys, has been a mainstay on the offensive line for 12 years. Hamlin, who has only played the last three years in Dallas, has been dubbed the “quarterback” of the defense. Before the Cowboys officially made the move, Hamlin said his goodbye on his Twitter account this morning: “I would like to say to all of my fans that I appreciate all the love that you have showed me in Dallas. It was a good run..... Thanks." The Cowboys had been discussing the possibility of releasing Hamlin, who still has more than $1 million guaranteed on his six-year contract he signed before the 2008 season. Hamlin’s base salary for 2010 was $5.59 million. Still, the Cowboys appear ready to move on. These moves not only signal a huge opportunity for tackle Doug Free and safety Alan Ball, but might also create some strong draft needs at both positions. DMD
Adams is no surprise, he has been declining for a while. Gonna miss all his penatlies though. Hamelin is a small surprise to me.
CowboysDiehard
Both guys will be missed. Agree that the writing on was on the wall for Flozell. He might show up somewhere else for a year or two, it wouldn't surprise me.
bpwallace49
I wonder if Flozell decided to trip the guy that fired him as they left the office . . .
General Itals
Free looked good filling in at RT last year, but when he was at LT in the playoff game, he got pwned. edit: corrected two dumb mistakes in my statement. bushwacked
Any of the Boys homers think Hamlin struggled in pass coverage? That was his Achilles Heel as a hawk.
General Itals
I thought Hamlin was above average his first two years in Dallas and was average to slightly below average last year. He didn't struggle in Dallas nearly as bad as he did in Seattle.
Cowboyz1
I am surprised at the release of Hamlin, as I thought we covered the deep ball very well. We didn't get beat deep hardly ever while he was back there. There was a lot of intermediate stuff uncovered but deep balls were minimal. I just didn't like the fact that he didn't make plays back their though. I mean I just wanted to see a few plays like the pick he let go though his hands last year happened far to often. I think he did his job but we need a playmaker back there also. A Palamalu would be nice. Adams, got beat way to often in critical situations for me. He should have been more stout in big situations. Little Dumerville wore him out. Free should fill in nicely. I am worried about the Safety position though. That is a very important need that needs to be filled. go Boys
Cowboyz1
On the second thought, in the Vikings game, the line was holding up pretty well until Adams went down. Not saying that Free coming into that situation was the best obviously but Adams is still the best answer for big games. That said, they have made the right decisions so far so I have to trust the staff that they know who's who and what they are doing. Who would have thought Miles was less then Miles away from stardem and Jenkins was a stud and Scandrick was 2nd best. This coaching staff has made some key decisions that have all panned out well if not spectacularly well. Spencer, Brookings, Jenkins........ Hope Free is ready to take the torch or this kid Brewster has something we havent seen. I did say earlier that we didn't have many roster spots for draft picks, now we do. Scooby's Hubby
Adms did pick it up toward the end of the year, but he is never in shape at training camp and a calf injury (that he could not play through) took him out of the most important game of the last decade for Dallas. I blame his injury for the loss. At the same time, MINN whipped our hineys and deserve all the credit for a well executed game plan, especially Edwards DE on Defense. Randall
Now if only they'd release Jerry Jones.
Shorttynaz
I think right before his meeting with the Dallas brass, Adams was once again flagged with a false start - which ultimately led to his dismissal.
