Super Bowl trivia

For the last nine seasons, the Superbowl winner has only once featured a runner who had more than 70% of the total regular season RB carries for his team. Just one.

Without looking it up, what team and player?

I'll even make it really easy for you - here are the SB winners

Since we can;t look it up, I'll make a wild guess at the '06 SB Champ Steelers with Willie Parker. IIRC, that was the year Bettis had a ton of TDs but very limited carries, and Parker was getting the majority of carries up until the redzone.

Parker only had 210 carries for 791 yards and just 51% of the team carries in 2008 and had 255 carries for 1202 and 53% in 2005.

Corey Dilllon ?

NE saw Antowain Smith with 69% of carries (287) in 2001 and he had 44% (182) in 2003 and then, yes, freak of all freaks Corey Dillon had 345 carries for 73% of his team carries in 2004 when the Pats won their last championship.

Since then, the Pats leading rushers and their share of carries have been:

2005 Dillon 53%

2006 Dillon 46%

2007 Maroney 46%

2008 Morris 36%

2009 Maroney 44%

Makes you wonder why they use rotations now when using a workhorse back won the championships?

after I guessed dillon I looked him up and actually thought I was wrong...these are the stats I found at NFL.com

http://www.nfl.com/teams/newenglandpatriot...amp;seasonType=

Reg season: Pats total carries: 524 Dillon: 345 (65.8%)

http://www.nfl.com/teams/newenglandpatriot...seasonType=POST

Post season: Pats total carries: 99 Dillon: 65 (65.7%)

Reg Season and Post Season combined

Pats rushing plays: 623

Dillon: 410

% of running plays: 65.8%

The comparison is for regular season carries for running backs, something all teams have

Pats rush plays - 524 regular season but you are including QB Brady (43) +QB Rohan Davey (4)+ WR Bethel Johnson (2) +WR Patten (1) + WR Izzo (1) = 51

524 - 51 = 473 carries available for any team RB

Dillon carried 345 times so 345 / 473 = 73% of the rushing carries during the regular season of all team running backs.

I would not consider Brady rushes since virtually none were a called play. There were only 4 WR runs. The measurement is to see what portion of the RB workload a RB was given.
